well took - 10mins to change maf and tap the rubbish out of the aircleaner (mainly insects) old maf and new maf looked identical - no contamination - sensor nice and shiny on both :P oh well.

Up a reasonable incline from a standstill to a marked post

no maf = 70s

old maf 40 s

new maf ..... 20s Wow what a difference , now have acceleration between 60-70 :(

Given there was no real difference between the two sensors (no oil dirt contamination) do the sensors age/become less efficient over time?

Thanks to all those who convinced me it doesn't just fail :D

PS - after a quick wipe over the old one looked just like the new - for an unscrupulous person it would be easy to sell this on as new on ebay  box endcaps and all

I've emailed the guy who sells them on ebay as recommended by you.

Hopefully he can get one.

I spoke to my Local Ford dealer as I asked him about the price.

He said there is no surcharge as not returnable?

Ho Hum, wait for the ebay guy to get back.

Hopefully I'll notice the difference as well, when I get one.

If my experience is anything to go by you will - as an added bonus on one 14 mile urban journey my mpg just jumped from 37 to 42 Mpg, I know this is starship mileage for you v6 guys :D :D but definitely worth

Can someone please put me out of my misery and tell me what a MAF sensor is and where it lives in the engine bay. :D

Mass air flow, ecu uses the data to see how much air is being mixed with the fuel , have a look here for where it is

location of maf

Well the guy from ebay was great to get back to me, his reply.

I don't keep the 2.0L one. I tend to keep the two options for the 1.9TDI, and sometimes the 2.8. The reason is your 2.0L one is made by a different company.

Then i found this one.---->2.0ltr MAF Sensor

So I'm not gonna save a lot really

Well, the other half picked up the new MAF Sensor from Frauds yesterday.

So after a long day (14hrs) and getting home at 19:50 i quickly changed it out (Literally 10mins).

Started the car just to make sure all was ok, no problems there.

So this morning I thought lets see if this makes a difference on my 26 mile journey to work.

Acceleration seems to have improved slightly as does the overall driving, although the overall driving wasn't that bad anyway.

So nothing really shout about, but I'm glad it has been changed now.

I know it's

when our MAF went i phoned round a couple of garages, including a VW dealer. the VW dealer said he needed the engine number in order to help me. i didn't know the engine number, and he didn't seem too keen to help.

other garages actually quoted more than fords!
