Guest MATT Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 well, my son was ordered to fetch the caravan, last night, and when he got in, he mentioned the car was finding it difficult to manage 50mph. so anyway, i went for a drive, without the caravan on, and doesn't seem to bad. but i have been doing some "tests" my son went for a drive (as he drives it most) with MAF connected. he then went the same route, with it disconnected. here is what he said... 0 - 30 mph acceleration - quicker, and smoother 30 - 60 mph acceleration - no different from whats been said before, this would indicate a faulty MAF - yes? to me, acceleration and speed etc, seems alright, but the test says different. also, how much are these? part numbers? cheapest place? VW or Ford? is a fault code listed? will VAG COM uncover anything? please note - i dont drive the galaxy much anymore - son has driven it for the last 11 months, hes the one complaining, im just fed up of spending money! Guest galaxykid Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 The bad news is it sounds like the MAF's screwed! and no it wont bring up a fault code, the good news is that if you cant get it fixed before the bank holiday weekend? it means one less mobile chicane for the rest of us to get stuck behind ;) Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 mum of 4 - if you could post his ID it would be great. although i am a bit nervous about buying one off ebay, as ive heard stories of people selling faulty ones. anyone know how much ford will want? will ring them soon. MATT Quote

Guest MATT jr Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 i drive the galaxy the most. and most of the time its "normal" but on rare occasions, you will hardly press the accelerator, and it goes like a rocket! and then other times it takes ages to get up to 60mph, up a slight hill. its also slow off the mark, but i suppose that's because its auto. when we disconnected the maf, the car felt smoother, and quicker up to 30mph, then after that, was no different to "normal" performance. Masked Marauder Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 I unplugged my MAF once to see the difference. It was shocking without it plugged in, I only went about 50 meters before I stopped and re-connected it. If your car is better without it then it must be a pretty good bet it is knackered. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Good on you. ..Its the same guy as i had a gander..i take it yours was cheaper as it was for a different car! hmm...Think ill send him a message and ask for a commision! Quote
AMacdonald Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Possibly. I have a '97 Alhambra 1.9 TDi 90. I didn't think there were many different Bosch MAFs though. I found him by myself (thanks Google) but you might be able to pull some comission out of the bag ;-) Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Hello all... today we bought a new MAF sensor.we got it from Bristol street ford - Quote
corskey Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Hi mumof4 when you ask for commission don't forget about getting your commission from me. I followed your link and am now the 'proud' owner of a Galaxy that is able to drive up a hill at a speed greater than 30 mph. Quote
NikpV Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I've felt that our gal has been getting a bit sluggish - nothing dramatic, so I tried disconnecting the MAF and it made one hell of a difference so unless it can affect things at different speeds I am assuming that the MAf is ok. Anybody found that the MAF can be ok at low speed but is affecting performance at speeds greater than 50mph Any opinions experiences? Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Nik I found that whilst the MAF affected the whole driving range the vacuum had a dramatic effect on speeds above 70kph and a small leak on the sytem really affected the "feel" of the brakes. A quick check of the vacuum pipes may alleviate some of the problem if you have hesitancy at 40+ mph. Quote

Guest BagPuss Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Sorry to bring this topic back to the front but something else I've heard a lot about, problems, poor performance, consumption etc. I've read the replies and wondered how do you tell if it's knackered? Mine has done 97k and as far as i know never been changed. The car does seem slow (ish), but then again I'm used to light / quick cars, not a heavy galaxy.Acceleration isn't brilliant, taking it's time to get to 60mph, but I don't go much above that anyway, trying to get every last MPG i can. Just spoke to my local Ford dealer who quoted me:- Mass Flow Air Meter Quote
NikpV Posted May 6, 2006 Report Posted May 6, 2006 Wife ordered one yesterday from local fraud dealer - to be picked up monday Quote
