Guest Haystack Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Hi All, The clutch on my air conditioning compressor (2000 Mondeo 2.0 Zetec) does not engage when the control is switched on (although the light in the centre of the control knob comes on). I have tried changing the relay (number 3) in the engine bay fuze box, to no avail. I could run a by-pass wire direct from the battery just to make sure the compressor is ok, but it will still leave me with the problem. Is there anyone out there with experience or advice to offer on this? Thanks, Barry. Quote
Guest zep Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 I encountered this problem on a 99 mondeo 2 1.8 LX. Prior to complete failure the system would work sporadically. This is the report I got-. When you switch the aircon on the clutch tries to engage, the control module then looks for (if i remember correctly) a rise in compressor temperature and a drop in condenser temperature. When this doesn't happen the system will keep drawing current until the fuse blows. The control module then generates a fault code which can be interrogated with a diagnostic computer. I was told by the (reputable) engineer that the unit could not be economically serviced and was quoted Quote
Guest Tony Clarke Posted October 14, 2006 Report Posted October 14, 2006 The car could be just low on refrigerant gas, which stops the compressor engaging. Quote
