Guest steve_m_2003 Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 Hi all I am thinking about buying a used 2.3 ford galaxy and i wanted to know a bit about them first. I noticed that there was a few differnt types, LX, Zetec and Ghia. Do all of these just mean that there is added extras or are they actually differnt engines. I know i sound stupid but i dont have any idea about galaxy's. Any help will be greatly appericated or if you know a site where i can compare them. Many thanks Steve Quote

mumof4 Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 yes there is!!!! you get 115 bhp,150bhp...um..think there is a 90 one aswell.you get 1.9....2.3(i think) you get diesel which are slower on the start but overtake the petrol when they are filling up....diesel do more mpg than petrol..lots in an engine!!!!!!!! do a wee bit more research.... get a brochure from frauds or summit on gals..that will tell you ALL the diffs....i dont claim to know all,i just know that the ghia can be top spec...and my one is very economical.and van do ober 40mpg wheras a petrol one does anout 25/30???(i think) Quote

Triple Trouble Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 As far as I am aware, in the 2.3 petrol to which Steve originally referred to only has one level of engine  Having had one (2.3 ghia X) and now about to get the diesel version (130 Ghia), I think the diesel with its better torque and economy would make a better bet!!! Guest MATT Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 arnt ghias supposed to have more sound proofing? what engine you have is down to what you want from it and how much money you got. MATT Quote
strouf Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 one of my mates was talking about some MAZDA engine ??? in the gals ? I dunno ??? Yes , the 2.3 16v petrol engine is common to many Fords and Mazdas...The MPV and Tribute have the same engine Quote
AndeeeH Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 IIRC The Mazda Tribute has the same 2.0l Zetec engine as the Mk3 Ford Maverick. The V6 option is a 3.0l Duratec in both models. :D Andy. Quote
Andrew T Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Yes , the 2.3 16v petrol engine is common to many Fords and Mazdas...The MPV and Tribute have the same engineAre you sure? I believed the 2.3 evolved out of the Twin Cam engine introduced in the Sierra in 1989. In 1995 it grew to 2295cc for the Granada / Scorpio and gained twin balancer shafts. The Mazda engine used in later versions of the MPV and the Mazda 6 has a capacity of 2261cc, it seems unlikely that Mazda would have a Ford engine with a capacity difference of only 34ccs. Quote
mumble_bee Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 all this makes the gal sound like the product of a HOT ORGY between mazda,vw,seat, ford and LORD only know who else. Quote
