mumble_bee Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 you dont like your job ? read my story : well my job hunt is going badly, very badly even I've applied for like 700+ jobs and nothing - not even an interview - recently updated my cvs and at least now I get rejections which is nice... I average about 70 applications a week. - these are targeted applications with cvs tailored for the job spec. NO BS , NO lies, I only apply for stuff I absolutely can do. so.. now I play a game with the recruiters the first rejection of the day gets :Congratulations Diane you are my first rejection of the day, I expect many more will come, however the early bird and all that ... well played :D regards ak(that was todays - its always a little different depending on my mood of course. and for the rest of them..Due to the Multiple Job applications sent out, I regret to inform you - that in this instance your rejection was NOT the first one received. nothing positive from that yet - but hey - its no different :D Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 Perhaps you should revise your CV, or indeed your choice of employment. 700+ rejections suggests something is either not liked or required in your CV. Have you tried asking people what they want and perhaps tailoring you CV to suit? Just a suggestion! :D Quote
mumble_bee Posted April 3, 2006 Author Report Posted April 3, 2006 hey big j thanks for taking the time.. I've been to 2 professional cv places.. and they thought my cv was good before they saw it - anyway now I have 3 cvs, 1 for each kind of job I apply for... I'm actually worried that the rejections are coming before the interviews - which kinda suck - cause I KNOW when I go to interview I'm gonna scare the crap outta them - so I wouldnt mind it then... :D - maybe I'll work for myself again ? gregers Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 i was always told to keep your c.v to 1 page only, any more and the person doing the reading of it gets pissed off and bored then they file it under B(FOR BIN),dont know if your c.v only contains 1 page or not but might be worth condensing it if it aint. regards gregers Quote
Guest blatters Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 mumble_bee, Your experience is awful. Something is seriously wrong but I admire your resilliance as the average person would have lost the plot before now. I am a Human Resources Manager. I head up HR in my organisation. I've been doing HR since 1986 and I'm a chartered practioner. There is either something wrong with your CV or the CV is fine but you're applying for the wrong job. That's a statistical truism. It can't be personal as the folk who are rejecting you don't know you personally - they only have your CV. Getting invited to interviews is not difficult if you know how. That CV needs to work very hard for you. How long is the CV - you can just about get away with one sheet of A4 but use both sides. Minimum font size is really 11 in arial. Use bullets not blocks of text. Use action words: "I delivered a Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted April 3, 2006 Report Posted April 3, 2006 It took me 4 years to change jobs - it also depends on your age, skill and experience, plus market needs. In my case, there are very few senior manufacturing QA jobs in the south-east of England. You need to find a good agency and build up a rapport with one of their staff - maybe a self-employed one-man-band recruitment person. I wish you a lot of luck, because a job can make or break you as a person, as well as a source of income. I know that the Doctors would welcome the NHS being able to get you the job you want - it would seriously reduce the number of people receiving mental health treatment if we could all get a job we liked and enjoyed. mumble_bee Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 cheers for the help all, esp blatters : I'm inclined to agree with you that I may not be applying for the right jobs. which is why I made out 3 cvs, 1 for my business operational experience.. (which is what I really do), 1 for my Salesy stuff, and 1 for my techie stuff. MY CV is 2 Pages long.My fonts are all in 10, cause thats the only way I could get it all in on 2 pages.I do use bullet points instead of blocks of text - and this action word - seems to be where I think I might be letting myself down.. there isnt much action in my words.. its just usually an overview of what I did, I'm (for want of a better word) shy of writing down dramatic stuff. in sales for eg: I've personally made/managed annual sales of between 600k and 8 million over the last 10 years... how do I put that down without saying - hah - you can expect that of me again....some ppl dont understand turnover - you say 8 mil - they say why you wanna work for us ? Ofcourse the biggest thing I'm trying to HIDE on my cv is that I have been a partner in every business I have worked for in the last 13 years. which by definition means KPIs are ... unheard of...its all about just doing as good as you can - or just doing better than the previous quarter etc.. the other thing is I havent written my education down at all - as it isnt anything worth writing about.. it screams UNDERACHIEVER u see. Ivor- I remember the good old days when recruitment consultants gave you time - and would do a 1 on 1 to get you a job.. but now its like - WHY DID YOU CALL ME ? ... IF I'm interested I'll call you !!! and I agree about mental health, (HAHAHA I just remembered - I did some consultancy work for a US healthcare recruitment company .. they used to say when an RMN [registered mental nurse] calls... we just hang up - cause they're all mental anyway) thanks again peeps Quote
Guest blatters Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 mumble_bee, Ok, you seem like a reasonable guy and not like the 'nutter' that has been hijacking my Volvo site that I use as well - see thread 'are these boys going mad' on this section of the Ford web - you're looking for peegee (user ID). Sorry, but can't be too careful and you only have <50 posts - hence my caution. Anyway, I want to help you. We need to talk. Your experience is awful and is enough to drive people to despair. If you have family then they're suffering as well. That's the impact of these things on a normal family. Go to my ID - blatters. Send me a message containing your telephone number and / or email address. That's a private message that only I can see. I am busy tonight (Tuesday) but I could call you Wednesday evening, 9am? Landline please (not mobile) as my calls are free on my tele package. If you're uncertain whether I'm the real deal then all you need to do is read my other postings or ask the lads on this site. I've been contributing for about 2.5yrs. At the end of the day it's up to you. I've had help from folk in my career which has been invaluable. It's a reciprocal thing. Even if I don't know much about technical Ford Galaxy thingies there are other things members can bring to this site. Best wishes. Blatters PS. There's a picture of my son and myself on the thread. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...opic=7363&st=90 Quote
