mof4, you have classic symptoms of a virus. Get your virus software up to date and do a full system scan, decreasing virtual memory can be the virus itself infecting everything as it goes. In summary:-

1) Antivirus up to date and full system scan

2) Spybot search and destroy to get rid of spyware

3) Adaware to get rid of the rest of the undesireable's

Do all of that and that should get your system back up and running properly, it may of course take a while and thus the rest of us will be able to get a few words in on here.

Good luck,

Put recovery CD in main CD ROM drive or windows XP disc.

Restart machine.

Follow instructions on screen.

BEARSHARE is a person to person file sharing program which can be removed from your system by going into control panel and using the add/remove programs option.

It does come with some spyware and adware bundled into the program, but they can be got rid of seperately. Weatherwatch and Save.com I think are the usual 2 culprits. Again they can be got rid of through the control panel.

Try going to http://security.symantec.com and running an online virus check and security check (Symantec make the Norton suite of antivirus and internet security products)

Certainly sounds like a virus to me, but check how much space you haev left on your hard drive also as it could be due to lack of virtual memory space.

Best of luck!!

:D tell hubby NOT to look at naughty stuff , it's riddled with viruses ( so a "friend" told me ) PC world had a special offer on Norton anti-virus stuff- well worth getting.

Hubby has well and truely been told NOT under any CIRCUMSTANCES to look at very naughty stuff that might make him want to do "stuff". :D
