Guest MATT jr Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 mmmm, today i was looking in halfords, need some polish. whats the difference between polish and wax? and what type of polish/wax? - liquid? the gel stuff? am tempted to go for meguires - as seems highly recommended - although more expensive (does that mean better in its self?) so meguires polish or meguires wax - whats the difference? Guest BagPuss Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 Get Maguires! You've seen my Cars and how they come up :16: It speaks for itself :16: Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 lol - ok i will get maguires lol but what is the difference between polish and wax? or are they the same? MJR Quote
Guest BagPuss Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 lol - ok i will get maguires lol but what is the difference between polish and wax? or are they the same? MJR Polish takes a thin layer off to bring a fresh shiny layer upWax puts a shiny layer on top It was discussed on our Club GTI Forum ------> Here Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 ok,,, so i bought maguires gold class wax. iv tried it on the bonnet and wing panels up to yet. the finish is better than the mer polish - but only marginal. it does go on and off better than mer. overall im pleased with it. i think it will have a bigger effect on the corsa - as its a darker colour. Guest BagPuss Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Don't forget it takes me ages to get the paint work up to the standard in my pic's. I just don't wash it, chammy it and then apply polish/wax.Don't forget to prepare it first, T-cut or Color Magic, Quik Clay it so the surface is like glass, then you can start to apply the top coats. The Scirocco can have at least 4 or 5 applications on it to bring it up to Show winning standards.Even at home its gets the same treatment. I spent 4 hr's yesterday cleaning the Galaxy again and I could've spent a lot longer on it.(That was just a quick clean!) :13: I'll get some pic's today as we're shortly going out.The Galaxy is still looking gleaming. B) So don't be too disheartened, you can get it gleaming like mine. The color shouldn't make any difference really, White Scirocco, Green laguna, Yellow Cinquecento and Metalic Green galaxy, they all come up the same. Quote
NikpV Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 b****y h**l if I spent a tenth as much time cleaning the car and ignoring my kids and missus, she'd have me down at divorce courts for neglect :13: B) ummm ... now wheres the polish :P :D :D :D Quote
familyman Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 B) nice to see i'm not the only one who can spend all day washing ,polishing, hoovering the gal (and the following lecture from SWMBO-if you looked after the house as much etc etc )Women just don't appreciate how much care a car needs ,at least thats my excuse :13: Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 lol i think im expecting to much too be honest. MJR Quote

Bigjeeze Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 My car being Black takes a shine and looks good - but the bonnet is covered in tiny stone chips that I have had to touch in is some cases , but where the polish goes on it leaves little white specks. How do you sort that out? Quote
sanjsanj Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 i heard that you should t-cut or polish a car with metalic paint...only wax it as the polish takes the clear coating off. is this true? Quote
