Are the gears supposed to clunk into their respective slots when changing gear???

its not exactly a nice smooth transission from one hole to the other.the gear stick clunks.

Try changing the gearbox oil in order to double check the correct oil is in there or even try pressing the clutch down when changing gear :D

Perhaps if we find someone on the forum who speaks "Mum" that would help.

We need to relate what we are saying so that Mumof4 can understand it.

Oil - Baby Oil

Grease - Vaseline or Sudocrem

Filter - Nappy or Pamper

Gear Box - Like a mixing bowl you put in the ingredients and mix them up!

Clutch - a means of disengaging drive - Saying no to Hubby

and so on!!

As you can see I have only a basic knowlege of "Mum" Perhaps one of our female members can do a translation for her!! :D

Mof4 - did you buy a clunker? So many things wrong with your Galaxy!

The manual six speed box is a well known for it's notchy change, especially when cold, and especially into second from first. They do get less notchy over time.
