Guest jjpcarroll Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Until recently the cruise control on my galaxy worked fine, but on a trip to bristol I noticed that the speed started to slow down when climbing a hill  but if you just tapped the accelerator, the speed picked up. Has anyone got any ideas ? as to what is up with the cruise control. Any info welcomed regards JC :o Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Vehicle details would help? petrol or TDI, manual or auto? as the cruise control is a different system on the different variants? the TDI system is drive by wire so its an electronic system where as the petrol models are vacume servo controlled, I dont have cruise :o to be honest I've never seen the need for it :( ducks for cover as the I think its the best thing since slice bread brigade pop up from behind their papers  so I'm not that up to date on it and so I'm not sure wether or not it's an inteligent a system to adjust for inclines or such like? Quote
johnb80 Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I've just put the bloody paper down  The system is exactly what it's name suggests a cruise control. It adjusts the power to suit conditions to maintain vehicle speed. I use mine regularly and it's great. The usual causes of problems on non TDi engines is vacuum pipework all located around the offside headlamp I beleive. Back to my paper now. Regards - JB Quote
NikpV Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 The system is exactly what it's name suggests a cruise control. It adjusts the power to suit conditions to maintain vehicle speed. I use mine regularly and it's great. On my auto its worth at least 3-4 mpg compared to even my light foot :D if the trip is to be believed on long runs probably more ;) Quote
johnb80 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I've found the cruise control to be excellent, I don't let it return to speed though, it seems to accelerate harder than I would so I get it almost there and then select resume. On the trip front, I find it to be pretty accurate. Regards - JB Quote
Guest jjpcarroll Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006  Sorry, Its a 2.3i Ghia X, Manual, Petrol. If its the Pipe work, is that easily replaced ?? regards JC :D Quote
johnb80 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Yes, no problem and not expensive to do. Now you've confirmed it's a petrol gal, 99.99% sure it will be the pipework. Regards - JB Quote
Guest jjpcarroll Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 To all, many thanks for the responses especially JB  Just one more little thing as I'm not that much of a mechanic, where can I get the pipework & are there any diagrams to show the locations of the pipe work involved Regards to all jc :D Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 The pump is either behind the passenger side front indicator Mk1 or possibly (Mk2) behind the grill in front of the radiator :D Quote
johnb80 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Halfrauds should have suitable tubing. If you search the topic on here I'm sure there are some pictures / diagrams of certain parts. Regards - John Quote
