Mot Time.

Hi All,

Just a quickie! Do the seats have to be all installed for the MOT? I'm thinking about seat belts and checking thereof.

I just had mine MOT,d last week and I did,nt have the rear 2 in and mine passed.

I rarely have all the seats in, but lest test I noticed that the printed check sheets the new system spits out shows the location of all the seats to be checked.

 

Not a problem unless you're tested by a jobsworth

Dear All,

Thanks for your responses.I've decided to play safe and put the seats in , beit only temporarily.So, fingers crossed for tomorrow. It should be ok as long as the headlight fuse doesn't start playing up!

I don't care what the computer says, the MOT rules say seats/seatbelts are only tested if they are fitted. There is no requirement to have them there, you only need a driver's seat by law.

Well...good news, it passed!

Only two "advisories",....exhaust rather rusty, and couldn't see brake pads.

So, another problem free year of happy motoring! Such joy!

i dont know if that is tounge in cheek but the test is only letting you know at the time of the test that it passed a minimum standard and says as much on the certificate

He does not have to see the brake pads, if he can't then the only test he can do on the brakes is an efficiency test.

 

If he could see them and they were contaminated/insecure/less than 1.5mm of friction material then that is a fail. But an MOT tester is not allowed to strip anything down to test it.
