mumble_bee Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 ******UPDATED SEE BELOW******* hi just wondering what the backward compatibility of the seats is.ie: can I stick mk2 seats in a mk1 car ?I seem to remember a single statement by someone that it can be done for the middle row or something. what I'm interested in is the whole shabang from front to back. The reason I ask, is cause the entire interiors can be got for near enough a monkey.. and the newer seats "seem" more comfortable and supportive than the mk1. Thank you in Advance... Quote
Masked Marauder Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 I think the mounting frames are the same, it is hard to tell otherwise as all the various colours and trims are changing all the time. You will need to take the lap belt of off the center seat if required though. Quote
mumble_bee Posted March 27, 2006 Author Report Posted March 27, 2006 hey marauder thanks for the reply.. yeh I was gonna worry about the lap belt - later tbh. would appreciate from anyone who has Definite knowledge, I'm especially worried about the front seat compatibility. Quote
malcolm.dobell Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Certainly the front seat adjecters are different between mk1 and mk2. also my mk 2 has seat mounted airbags which I don't recall on mk 1 perhaps change seats and runners for compatibility but haven't delved that far Quote
mumble_bee Posted March 31, 2006 Author Report Posted March 31, 2006 ok , is this a viable option ? use the 2001+ seats for the back and use the runners/whatevertheyarecalled/bottom things from the old seats on the new seats for the FRONT ones blahblahblahblahdidyougetthat?blahblah Quote
Masked Marauder Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Well as far as I am aware the changes to the MK1 and MK2 were mainly cosmetic, there was no changes to the drive train, suspension or steering. The Floor Pan and front seat supports are the same over the whole range and the 10 years it has been made for. I see no reason why the seats are not interchangeable. The frames are the same part numbers with only changes for colours too. Quote

mumble_bee Posted April 7, 2006 Author Report Posted April 7, 2006 ok I have changed my seats to mk2 seats they are a perfect fit front back left right all over the guy I bought them off had installed leather seats in his mk2 - and wanted to get rid of his full set of 7 seats - which I installed in my mk1 with no problems at all. I did however notice that the leather ones in his had WIDER rails at the bottom (thats just info for whoever) anyway - so mk2 seats fit in mk1 which means I now have 7 mk1 seats (2 + 5) of 1 design and 4 mk1 seats (1d + 3rear) of another design to dispose of ;) Quote
