Once the spring has been fitted some (depending on software )need to be reset using a laptop device so wether you fit it or not it still has to go back to fords, try and find a friendly mech, hope this helps

hi.....

how old is your car?

i had the very same fault with my 2003 gal, asked them "could it be the clock spring"........... they sorta guffawd at me, and said not to belive everything i read on the internet. As it happens it turned out to be a faulty earth connection on one of the curtain airbags (or thats what they told me).

took them months to finally sort it, only to get a letter in the post from Ford HQ yesterday telling me that there is an urgent recall because of................. YEP you guessed it...... faulty curtain airbag wiring!!!

if the light is on permanately it means there is a fault code listed in the airbag module.

after the faulty component is replaced, the fault code will need to be cleared using fords wds or simular.

Wonder if this is related ?

I took the passenger airbag out (after disconnecting the batt. for a while), but didn't complete what I was doing and decide to drive without it.

The warning light came on, as expected. But now I've reinstalled tha bag and and the light is still on.

Does the above man I have to get the fault code reset, or is there somethng that needs to be reset ?

Would anyone know if the airbag error codes can be cleared with the diagnostic tools available to normal garages, or only by Ford garages ?

Hi all,

I have the same problem as yurir.

I removed the front seat out and some time was driving without it (transporting some large planes inside...).

When I put the front seat back, the control light on the dashboard was still on.

Does anyone know how to reset this light? If I disconnect the battery for a while, does it help or shall I contact Ford dealer for such stupid thing??

Cheers, V.

It does seem a bit daft that once a fault has been logged by the computer, even if it was a temporary condition, that the warning light remains on. But thinking about it, I wonder if this is a safety measure so that an intermittent fault in the airbag system forces you to visit the dealer?

Without this, people might be tempted to drive their cars with an airbag system that worked some days and not others and crossing their fingers that they don't have an accident when the system is having an 'off' day.

I had the same problems as above so i plugged in VAG-COM,i was a bit hesitant using it as it is not recommended on airbag units but what the hell , anyway it showed an intermittent signal to the airbag ignitor and didnt blow up in my face.

As the car was in the garage for the cambelt i mentioned the problem to one of the mechanics, he didnt know what the clockspring was !!!

Anyway, bought a new one (
