mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 MAF is off.is there supposed to be black crap in the 2 connecting pipes where it goes???? Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 How much is there?a lot or a dribble? IIRC the crank case vent hose enters the pipe work after the MAF ? so you may find some oily residue ;) in the pipe? it could be that the oil seperator on top of the cam cover is not doing its job properly? http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/uploads/post-62-1143136667.jpg the hose in question is the small one to the left of the picture that goes to the circular device onto of the engine thanks to DaveG for the picture :) Quote
mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 Thanks for that.no there isnt a lot but will i need to clean the residue out? the 2 screws i took out of the maf have plastic treaded on them Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 It wont do any ham to clean it out! but make sure you dont spread it around and leave traces of it or the cleaning solution in the airways above the MAF or you could kill it ;) I would see if the oil seperator unit is ok? not sure of the construction of the one used on the galaxy but they normally have a sponge like filter in them? if this gets too full of oil it gets blown/sucked through and into the hoses as you have found! mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 no idea what the coil sep is...can i just wipe the ends with tissue to absorb the residue? Quote
mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 right..only one pipe has oil in it going all the way down(well as far as i could shove my fingers in)..it is the pipe at the top..not the one going to the black box thingy that you can see. Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 oil seperator..... one to many letters :) you can just soak it with a rag/tissue, have fun it's horrible stuff and gets deep under your nails and into you skin B) so if possible use a pair a rubber gloves while you do it ;) Quote
mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 ahh..sorry..reading quick as car outside!!..still no idea what the oil seperator is tho Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 right..only one pipe has oil in it going all the way down(well as far as i could shove my fingers in)..it is the pipe at the top..not the one going to the black box thingy that you can see. Thats good ;) thats the way it should be going :) getting sucked back into the engine to be burnt off B) and away from the MAF and air filter ;) Quote
mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 Thats a relief then!! As a matter of interest..is there supposed to be a thick oily residue all over everything that i can see??? Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 ahh..sorry..reading quick as car outside!!..still no idea what the oil seperator is tho oil seperator... stops aireated oil being sucked out of the engine and into the intake system, the inside of the engine gets pressurised if its sealedit would go pop B) so they vent the pressure which contains fumes and other crap from the combustion system out into the intake system to be burnt off, with all the moveing parts throwing the oil around some it get turned into a mist and gets sucked out with the other crap! to stop this happening and the engine running out of oil they put a trap in its way to collect the oil droplets, the theory is that the oil get trapped on the filter material reforms and trickles away back into the engine ;) over time the filter material becomes saturated and some oil makes its way past the filter and into the intake hoses as you have found! on some cars you can take the vent off and clean the filter by pouring petrol through it :) not sure if thats possible on the galaxy or with the filter due to it design? mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 I cant get the new maf on..there is a clip that i couldnt get off so i just pulled the old one off.i cant get this ruddy clip off Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Thats a relief then!! As a matter of interest..is there supposed to be a thick oily residue all over everything that i can see??? Where all over the outside of the engine? engine bays are not the cleanest of places, unless the cars new or kept by an anal retentive cleaning freak :) you will get oil spray, leaks and excess oil dropped on the engine while trying to top the oil ;) so unless it an absolute oil bath and is getting pumped out all over the place dont worry about to much! Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 I cant get the new maf on..there is a clip that i couldnt get off so i just pulled the old one off.i cant get this ruddy clip off What clip? the one on the pipe near the top of the picture with the two prongs? Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 You need a pair of pipe grips or a pliers, you need to push the prongs together to open the clip, its spring loaded and can be a bitch to do without the correct tool! Quote
mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 ahh..been using pliers.ill have a look in my box for a bigger pair as the ones im using are diddy!! didnt realise you had to push em together! ;) Quote
mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 ok.i, stucki managed to get the clip off by squeezing it with my fingers.realised that you need 2 squeeze it together and not take it off the pipe to ghet the maf on.now cant get the bloody thing back on again as i cant find my larger pliers Quote
Guest galaxykid Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Pipe grips would be better! with them you can get a better angled grip on the prongs and hold them better as the jaws will sit parallel while you pop the clip back into place Quote
mumof4 Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 got the clip on and one end of the MAF..just got to wiggle the other end in now! Quote
