As mentioned in a few other of my posts I have the fitted VCR system. I have the little panel in the centre consol between the drivers and passemger seats.

Why on earth do they go like the worn out headphone sockets on charter aircraft. I mean you put the headphones in and socket one feint sound. 2, sound so low you can't listen. Sockets 3 and 4 goes between stereo and mono then crackles and loses sound as the jack must move fractionaly in the socket.

Why do they do this and is there a way to get them back to full working order. Are they just dirty and need an earbudding of alcohol?? Never tried it on an aircraft so don't know if it works!

If it is a standard jack plug/socket then the connections(s) to the tip (and for stereo/multipole) are provided by sprung contacts which become looser over time - if you can access the back of the socket you can usually bend the spring contacts enough to both improve the contact and push the plug sideways enough to ensure that the common makes a good connection and tightens the plug in the socket. Possibly dirty but the plugging/unplugging action usually cleans the contact area - until it becomes loose although a thin layer of oxide can cover the contacts -
