Guest pellings Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Am I right in assuming that the heater should not operate once the engine is up to full working temp. I drove 35 miles this morning and when I got out at the other end, it had cut in and the 'jet engine' noise was coming from the back. I thought once the engine was up to temp, the aux heater isn't required. Quote
johnb80 Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 No thats not the case, if the engine can't maintain full temp the aux heater will continue to run on a lower power setting. If you drive gently and it's cold outside it's very likely to be running. Regards - JB Quote
Masked Marauder Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Hey, someone concerned because their heater is working correctly! Paranoia is a terrible thing when it comes to auxiliary heaters........ Quote
Guest pellings Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 Apologies for my ignorance!. I'd driven about 35 miles, half of which was M25 and I was averaging 70mph for that stretch. The last 5 miles was at 30-40mph and it was still only 3.5 degrees outside. Would that be cold enough to make the heater cut back in? Quote
NikpV Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 It probably never stopped - might have gone to 2kw ish mode while doing 70 though. Quote
johnb80 Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 When your aux heater fails you will know, I did nearly 100 miles on the motorway with -4 outside. Everytime I turned the heater on the temp guage fell to cold, it was horrendous. The TDi's are so efficient they produce very little waste heat. Regards - JB Quote
Masked Marauder Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 I drove all they way form Northampton to Perth in January (400 miles) at 70ish and the heater was running at low output the whole way. Quote
