Hiya all, I have a mk11 Ford Galaxy with factory fit sat nav and a fairly good trip computer on the dash. :D The only thing is that it doesn't tell me how many miles I have until the tank is empty, does mpg and all that.

I have had vauxhalls, fiats and renaults which all have displayed this information. I know the ebay code thingy doesn't work, does anyone have any ideas on how I could get this info without having to work it out as I go along?

Ta in advance

:P Terry

When you get the "please refuel" message..generally means that youve got about 40 miles left to do till you conk out from lack of fuel!!

Not on a V6!!!

If it's a V6 about 4 miles before you need to take out another mortgage.

Hi Terry, one of my gripes when changing from the Mk1 to the Mk2 was the loss of this very useful function, I'm pretty sure it cant be done, just got to keep the mental arithmetic upto scratch. Andy.

I've gone just over 100 miles after the light came on, didn't have any choice, late at night, rural france, no petrol stations open. At some point the message changes from"Please Refuel" to "Refuel Now". I didn't run out, but when I filled up the next morning it took 78 liters.

The official capacity is 70 Litres which is 15.4 Gallons.

The question is how accurate are Petrol pumps ? I believe that they are allowed by trading standards to over / under deliver by 10%.

I agree with you, you're missing a usefull feature.. but the real problem is the fuel consumption itself !!! I only have the car for a couple of months , (still 700Km on the clock ), and while driven around town she can only run for 400Km. with a full tank. Do you think this is normal ? I would get confused with Miles and Gallons as I'm used to Liters and Kilometers. So my question is : How many Kms. (or Miles) with a full tank ? The car is a 2.3 petrol.

I remember old posts about putting more fuel in than the official spec. IIRC it had something to do with the fact there is some extra space for air af the top of the tank and there is a certain way you can get more in there.

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but I've always missed the "miles to empty" function on my Mk2 Gal (2003). Anyway, I've just had a new Alhambra as a hire car and that HAS got the miles to empty function.

So is this something that is a difference between the makes or was it an unspecified update? If the latter, is there anyway to upgrade the trip computer on my 2003 to give the function?

might be 'very usefull' but also a bit dangerous.

I've stepped into my 98 V6 several times to see 0 (zero) on the miles remaining. (automatically switches to this function at 40 miles remaining).

The response from the wife is normally something like "well it said i had 2 miles remaining when I left work" (about 4 mile journey) !!

Did once though do 10 miles on 0 (zero) hunting for a garage late at night !!

I think it can encourage some to suck up the sh1t from dregs of the tank (or is that an old wives tail ?!)

I've always thought so, and I've been running tanks down to the bottom for 25years without any ill effects.
