Guest Cliff Murray Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Hi Can any one help?My Galaxy 1.9tdi has developed an intermittent loss of power, very much like a miss fire. I have the car into a garage to be checked three times the last time I was told that the ECU had an ntermittent rom failure? does mean I need a new ECU Regards Cliff Quote
Ex-Vec Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 I have no idea about ECu's, but know they are usually expensive. The power problem seems & sounds like what happened on my Vectra ( i thought the ECu at first). It was the MAF Mass Air Flow sensor. You can try and clean it with carb clean (dry thouroughly afterwards!) and see if that works. Would be cheaper and worth a go.Though eventually the Vec needed a new MAF. As for where the MAF sensor is I haven't looked yet, but a few inches after the air filter would be a good start  Quote
mumof4 Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 top left under the bonnet..cant miss it! Quote

Guest arabjazzie Posted March 19, 2006 Report Posted March 19, 2006 Might be putting 2 n 2 together in the wrong place, but ive just had a similar problem with a petrol 2.3 and it was down to a power relay no 30. Sure i read something about TDis after a search about mine. Quote
dave_m Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 I had an intermittent misfire problem on my tdi, Turned out to be an intermittent misfire on Cylinder 1, caused by High resistance in the Injector wiring loom. I also found this in TIS PCM = ECUTSB00101.pdf Quote
Guest tristan Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 maf sensors are very comman and you can pick up a new boch unit for about Quote
Guest MATT Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 just a side question... when disconnecting the MAF, will this cause a "fault" light to come on? and will it go off when re-connected? MATT Quote
mumof4 Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 our car worked better with the MAF disconected..this is how we knew it was naffed. the car had no oomph wen it was connected Quote
Guest tristan Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 matt should not cause a fault code if it does it will clear Quote
Guest MATT Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 matt should not cause a fault code if it does it will clear ok - thanks MATT Quote
dave_m Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 disconnecting the MAF will log a DTC, which will show up when ford connect Diagnostics to the car, If you do disconnect bits trying to solve problems yourself if you finally do admit defeat and then the car goes to dealer/garage let them know otherwise when they see the fault codes they assume this is what the problem is and change and charge you for uneccessary bits. Guest MATT Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 disconnecting the MAF will log a DTC, which will show up when ford connect Diagnostics to the car, but will anything light up on the dash?? MATT Quote
mumof4 Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 No..it doesnt on ours.Ours has been disconnected for months now Quote
dave_m Posted March 21, 2006 Report Posted March 21, 2006 disconnecting MAF will not cause a light on the dash, I have heard that a flashing glowplug lamp signals a fault, but which type of faults this responds to i am not sure Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 flashing glowplug light,,,,,,,,,,,does this not mean a brake light problem,,,,usually a faulty brake light switch???????????????????????? Quote
