Sorry folks,

I'm close to doing a deal on a new 2006 XC90 2.4D5 Turbo Diesel SE.

I can't take the rattles, failing aux heater, aux water pump etc. etc. anymore.

It's been fun but the end seems to have come sooner than I had planned.

Best wishes.

Blatters

PS. I fancy I'll return to post the rattles and componant failures of the Volvo in due course - I guess it's inevitable!

good luck with it blatters, hope it behaves itself

Remember the Volco adverts years ago, they had dummies driving their cars protraying that Volvos were the choice of dummies

Good luck mate, I'm sure you'll be impressed.

I'm cutting the final deal Monday (tomorrow) so, depending upon how that goes, I might yet be back!

The haggling could be fun but I just hope it's productive. It seems that, for the first time since the XC90's launch, the magazines say I should be aiming for a target price a little below list.

I'll be in touch, including strategy and whether it worked or not!

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain 'Blatters' speaking.

Today we'll be cruising at an altitude of 30,000 feet.

Wonder if the NS front seat swivels for the steward/ess to do the lifejacket demo :P

Regards,

Jeff.

Hi, with the on-line retailers I could have got a better deal. I did my research on Sunday and got the quotes from Drive the Deal, AutoBytel and two others.

The one I really followed through was AutoBytel. Things are not always what the seem. The car they were advertising wasn't available until May from the factory and that meant the price could not be assured.

They offered me the chance of an auto. Hmm, not my preferred option but I said I might be interested so they promised to call me back with details. Still waiting for that call!

I did the on-line, car supermarket thing with the Galaxy and the deal was good. Motorhouse 2000. No complaints.

This time I wanted to comit to the dealer who has been superb throughout, couldn't be bothered with any more hassle (got a fair bit of that in our lives right now anyway) and I wasn't pushed on the financial front. Pays your money and takes your choice.

I like the odd piece of antique from time to time. My moto is - if you like it and you think you've got a fair deal then buy it and enjoy it. Feel the same way with the Volvo right now - not an antique motor yet though!

Hope your mate is happy with his.

Found this crazy Volvo owners website. Similar to this except the members are from all over the world. The misunderstandings are amazing as you would expect and some of the 'Yes it is / No it isn't' threads are a joy to review.

Here's the link: http://www.vvspy.com/frameset.php?bn=volvospy_xc90

If it's all right with you guys I think I'll hand around this site for a while longer as the content is amusing

Oh and a couple more things:

The latest D5 diesel is a 185bhp unit just out since December 2005. Some of the models available are still the old 163bhp units.

Also, my deal includes all the bits like PDI, admin, road tax, plates & registration etc. Sometimes the on-line folks end up adding this on top of the price quoted - sometimes they don't.

I couldn't be doing with a brand new car.

No I will stick my 10 year old (it's 10 on Sunday) heap that is falling to bits.

Good luck with it.

 The XC90 does look the part. I suppose it should given the dosh involved. My mate's one just been returned after spending a day in the workshop for repairs to a fault with some warning light and the car was collected, cleaned and valeted and returned to his drive on the same day. Also, the dealer offered another XC90 as a courtesy car. Strange I don't get this service from Ford!

His only gripe is lack of space at the back row.

All the best!

And here's something that I don't call service:

When my teenage son was surfing for better deals he stumbled across the Drive the Deal web site.

He thought he had located the 'Mother of all Deals' and enthusiastically suggested that we add the quote from said web dealer to my possible sourcing list........

Actually I bought my galaxy through Dealthedrive - they simply offered the best deal and the car was transported from Bristol Street Birmingham to South London without hidden extras although the driver had a problem finding Streatham. My mate's XC90 was also bought via them, delivered in the same way - not sure about the supplying dealer though. About the cost just for printing the quote, I agree that this is a bit of a robbery but I guess they are trying to ensure you buy the car from them at the end of the day, rather than use it for bargaining purposes. Don't misunderstand I have no connection with the broker but would not hesitate in going back to them (if their price is sensible) for my next car!
