Auxillary heater stopped working after being fine for months. I am trying to locate the temp sensor and bridge the terminals. I believed this sensor was near the n/s wiper arm. Nothing seen in that area. In fact the only wired items are the screen wash nozzles.

Any idea where I should be looking? It's a 2001 Tdi .. By the way, the fuse is OK..

If the glow plug was suspect would the heater unit still attempt to start for a few seconds?

Thanks for any advice.

That is exactly the symptoms of the glow plug, it tries to start, the fan spins about a 1/4 of a turn and it stops.

The temperature switch is clipped to the frame of the wiper linkage near the pollen filter.

When my glow plug was duff the blower would start and spin for about 20 secs before turning off. I could hear the metering pump ticking all that time - no doubt squirting more unburnt diesel onto the insides of the booster heater. The puff of white smoke at the time was probably atomised diesel - but nothing compared to the smoke screen that resulted when a new glowplug successfully initiated ignition and all that unburnt diesel started to combust
