Guest djjonesy Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Hi, I have a galaxy 2litre petrol n reg and the wiring under the bonnet has fried. It looks like the wiring to what looks like the speed sensor on the gearbox has shorted onto the air recirculation pipe and has caused about 10 wires on the loom to fry. I have repaired all the wires and checked the loom back to the fuse box and am convinced that all the wiring is now ok. Tried to start the engine and it will not fire, but will start up if I prime it with a shot of carb cleaner. It wil then tick over at the normal tick over all day long. When it is running if you try to rev it it dies and then the only way to start it is to give it a shot of carb cleaner again no matter how hot the engine is. If I rev it really gently it will rev through the full rpm range but again if I blip the throttle it dies straight away. I had an auto electrician/ engine tuner round and he tried to run a diagnosis on the ecu but could not access it. He took the ecu away to bench test it but still could not test it because it has a transponder in it and needs the key and nessary equipment to test it, but with the cover off and a close inspection looks as if there are no burned tracks, components etc. I have spent a lot of time removing the dash and checking the wiring loom and repairing it and am still at a loss. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what could be at fault please as I am at my wits end ??? :( Thanks Paul Quote
Topbloke Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 its sounds like you are not getting sufficent fuel or there is still a burnt wire/ knackered sensor some where . i would check the fuel pump relay and relay no 30 (do a search for locations) could you get the vehicle to a garage for the codes to be read or a local guy that comes to you to see what the mass air flow is doing and temp sensor readings give these a try and get back to the forum and let us know any results Quote
johnb80 Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 The engine wouldn't tickover if the fuel pump relay was u/s. I would think it's time for a specialist with code reader or fellow member with vag com to get the clu's for you. It's entirely possible that sensor(s) were damaged when the wires shorted but at the minute you have no way of knowing. Regards - JB Quote
