chevron169 Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Just interested to know how many miles I might reasonably expect out of a clutch on a 2.3 ? Mine's done 100k on original ! How long have I got before I need to remortgage ? Quote
Bigjeeze Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 I have two diesels - a Mk1 and a Mk2 The Mk1 has 129K miles - original clutch (1997 vintage) The Mk2 has 90k miles orignal clutch (2001/2 vintage) So your guess is as good as mine!! Quote
Charliemuttley Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Obviously depends on how you drive it!!! But i would say you will need one soon and when the clutch is done you should do the hydraulic release bearing too. It's not to bad a job to drop engine and box. <_< Quote
Tony Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 My old 98 2.3 Galaxy sold to a freind has just had its fist clutch at 151000 so could be a while yet. Quote
andymet Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 My 1996 1.9TDI lasted 163,000 miles, its now done 171,000 and still has original exhaust! Quote
Charliemuttley Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 BLIMEY!! Good on you for not letting the women drive them!!   :D Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 I'm afraid I can't help you much. 2,000,000 miles in 40 years and I've only had to replace one clutch and that failed because of a sticky cable at about 180K. Most of my recent motors have done 200k. It helps if you don't ride it at the lights as seems to be the habit these days but I think that, if it still feels OK, don't worry about it. From experience with helping friends with their problems etc. I believe that, if the pedal biting point starts to rise, then is the time to start worrying. Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 My first MK1 gal lasted 220k miles but on my MK2 its only lasted 72000 and is giving me grief now.. Oh dear big Bucks...... Quote
