chicosi Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Does anyone have or know where to get (reasonably cheap!) a sump for a 2.3 petrol? My sump is porous and my local Ford dealer wants Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 What about the guys on ebay who are breaking the galaxy,,,,,one of them may have one Quote
chicosi Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 Tried them as well - I guess the only reason somebody will give me a sump is if the engine's knackered and there doesn't seem to be many of them about. Thanks for the suggestion though - keep em coming! :( Quote
cr3sp0 Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Yep, I'm looking for one as well, corrosion on the sump pan, slight oil leak. 5 year old Gal, 35k on the clock. Again been quoted Quote
Goofygolfer Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 sorry to read about your sump pans guys, just out of interest have you got the engine undertray fitted? or was the absence of the tray cause of the corrosion? Quote
chicosi Posted March 23, 2006 Author Report Posted March 23, 2006 Yep, it's always had the tray fitted Since I last posted I managed to find one from a breakers in London but had to send it back as it was nearly as bad as the one I've got. It was corroded in the same area as mine, I'm beginning to think there's a quality issue or design fault here. It would be interesting to know if any other 2.3 owners are having this problem. Trouble is you wouldn't know until you remove the tray and have a look. Quote
Goofygolfer Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006 Hmmm thats a bit worrying guess i'll have to drop the tray a have a look at the weekend  Quote
teresa Posted March 23, 2006 Report Posted March 23, 2006  suppose id better look at mine as well :( Quote
Bigjeeze Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 Without seeing or really understanding the complete issue - Is there no way that perhaps a plate can be welded onto the sump to get round the leaks? Is it leaking at a defined spot or is it across the whole thing? If it's going to cost Quote
chicosi Posted March 24, 2006 Author Report Posted March 24, 2006 I thought about welding, but not only is the corrosion across the bottom it is also up the side which would make it a b*gg*r to shape the plate. I spoke to a pretty good welder at work, he Quote
