Charliemuttley Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 Ok, so i decided to take my Galaxy engine out and a Sierra engine out and put them side by side and start swapping the bits over.First problem- three out of seven holes no cast for the pump mounting casting, thought ok could fabricate a bracket. Second problem- had to change cam box cover, remove dizzy cap and rotor arm and change plate on end- ok. Third problem- Mmmmmm dipstick in wrong place-DAMN!!! Thought could drill if necessary, so lets see what else. Fourth problem- thermostat housing on head not there- take out core plug, drill and tap-ok. Fifth problem- The MOTHER of all problems- took off inlet manifold only to find the head is totally different!!! Boll*$ks!! Game over. Just thought i would let you all know once and for all as nobody seemed to know (or if they did know they weren't telling anyone on this forum!) Quote
bigdaddy Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 After all that work and it wont fit,,,,,,,What a shame  Quote
chromedome Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 If I remember, didn't you get a prime Sierra for Quote
Charliemuttley Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 Not worth putting sierra back together as i cut it out quite quickly- sold the wheels for more than i paid for car, plus have a buyer for the gearbox!! What i am now doing is taking crank, con-rods, pistons and cams out of sierra engine because i know they are good and transplanting into Galaxy castings!!That is providing neither have had rebores and that a good hone will clean up bores. Mad i know but what's a bit of labour, besides engine re-con is loads more. If i have to i will rebore with new pistons. Anyway thought i would put the age old theory to rest on this site. Quote
AndeeeH Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 http://www.intapart.com/index.htm are showing two 1998 2.0l Galaxies on their 'Breaking Now' list. Andy. Quote
Charliemuttley Posted March 14, 2006 Author Report Posted March 14, 2006 Cheers for that mate....BUT................................................ I now have fitted sierra engine into Galaxy!! Decided to carry on in my mighty quest and it wasn't too bad! I ended up having to swap the cylinder heads over and that solved quite a few problems. I did have to re-drill the dipstick hole and change a few main cap bolts and cover plates and stuff, but all in all not too bad. My only slight concern is the Galaxy pistons have a small dish in them and the sierra ones didn't, but i pressume that will just increase compression a bit??? Anyway.....IT CAN BE DONE........ ...BUT I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT UNLESS YOU ARE DESPERATE!!!!!! I thank you..... <_< Quote
AndeeeH Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Well Done That Man!!!!!!!!!! <_< Andy. Quote
