KrizyD Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 The accelerator cable is sticky and the pedal is very stiff to press. The accelerator cable goes through a box (not sure what this is). To replace the cable, is it a job for a DIY mechanic or do I need to go to ford dealer to get it done? Any ideas? Quote
Guest lop Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 I have the same problem on a V24 automatic 1995 model mondeo. It appears mostly when I drift down a long hill and then press the accelerator at the bottom of the hill, the pedal will not move for at least a few seconds, it is absolutely locked solid. It then responds OK until I get to another situation where I am just moving/drifting along , with the engine idling at tick over speed, i.e. without my foot on the pedal for a period and then when I go to accelerate it sticks as in your case. or the worst situation is that I cannot press the peddle down for a short period. I did have a Ford mechanic look at the problem but the problem I think cured itself, but it soon re-appears days, weeks or months later, and then goes away for a period, having done nothing to the car to sort out the problem? I did take the power cable off the box that's in the middle of the accelerator cable but that did not cure the problem either. I presume that it is something to do with the engine management system ie ABS stopping me from trying to accelerate thinking that the wheels are locked or something similar? You did not appear to get any feed back at all on your problem, has it been resolved? if so any chance of a response? Quote
