hatter1999 Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Hiya everyone, weird problem on my 2.3 ghia 1997, the cruise control works fine normally but when i either press brakes or clutch it disengages (which it is supposed to do) but when i slide the resume switch I get a kind of doble click from the relay behind the radio but the cruise control doesn't resume ;) Any ideas guys? as it used to work fine :D Quote
Andrew T Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 The cruise on the 2.3 is a vacuum and servo powered device, with split pipes often being the culprit. Do a search on posts over 30 days old and you should find plenty of info. Ignore anything to do with the diesel however as it uses a fully electronic system. Quote
hatter1999 Posted March 9, 2006 Author Report Posted March 9, 2006 hi, but if I had split pipes wouldn't the entire cruise control be not working? It's only the resume that doesn't work, and I searched all the messages before posting but can't find anything related to the resume function. Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 How do you engage it again then? via the set button? Quote
strouf Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Sorry I can't help you with this ,but I also have a question. Is the system supposed to ausibly inform you that is ingaged ? (a beep after pressing the set button , or something ?) Quote
Goofygolfer Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 on my one i have to hold in the resume position for 2 seconds but maybe i have a dodgey control switch? Quote
El Dingo Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 I have to hold the resume for a few seconds too. AFAIK this is normal. Quote

Steven.Langdale Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 Hatter How do you engage the cruise again? does the set button work? Steven Quote
hatter1999 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Report Posted March 29, 2006 I set the cruise control using the button on the end of the indicator/high beam stalk, and all works ok even holding the button increases the speed. Its only when I brake or use the clutch that it disengages (as it is supposed to do) but when I slide the Resume switch it doesn't resume, but if i use the set button on the end of the stalk it works as normal, just the resume doesn't work. Guest Wanny Posted March 29, 2006 Report Posted March 29, 2006 I had the problems with split pipes on mine and had a simlar experience. What I found was .... I could set speed OK, it would increase the speed by holding the button but ..... it would take an age to increase the speed (like holding it few a few minutes) but when the brake/clutch was pressed it wouldn't resume. I check the pipes behind the indicator and sure enought they were persihed, so I replace and all is well. They only thing i can think of (apart from a dodgy switch) is that it takes an age to create that much of a vaccum with dodgy pipes that it would appear not to be able to recreate the vaccum to regain the set speed or indeed take that longer it would appear not to work. Just a thought ! Quote
