Hi,

My wife has noticed a beeping sound when she switches on the ignition (position before starting the engine) of our 2000 Galaxy TDI. The first time she opened the door to ask me what it was and it stopped, the second time she opened the window to ask and it stopped and today it stopped after 5 beeps. It does not re-occur during the rest of the day. Any ideas what it is?

Any info much appreciated.

I sometimes notice a beeping sound long before I switch on the ignition. It happens in the morning usually, but has happened at night too. The funny thing is, it happens at the same time each day, and my wife manages to stop it by pressing a button... B)

I phoned my local Ford dealer to ask their advice about the beeping noise but they had never come across it, so I tried the VW dealer, they could only suggest it was a warning that the exterior temperature was cold and possibly icy. I explained our car is always garaged overnight and the beeping only occurs in the morning and not if it's been left out in the cold, "dunno" was the reply.

So it's good to know that 2 of the worlds biggest car manufacturers show such an indepth knowledge of their products, I'd feel confident that they would do a good job servicing the Galaxy if I could ever afford to let them do it.

have you tested your battery to see what voltage it is throwing out????

Who needs alarm clocks when youve got kids that get up before the sun!!

i'm sure it is a low battery warning as my car has been garaged for a couple of months now while i tinker with it. a few days mine started beeping as i was starting it to pull it forwards a few feet. anyway, it did it for a few days running then eventually it wouldn't even turn over (normally fires first time). checked battery voltage and it was low so put it on charge and next time i started the car there was no beeping and it hasn't done it again since

hope this helps

Re Matt Beeping Sound In The Morning...its the alarm clock lol

Our newest alarm clock wakes us up by jumping on our bed and saying "I'm HUNGREE"

I suggested my wife gets the battery checked in the local garage just around the corner from the local school where she drops the older kids off, but she has yet to follow this advice. I guess when the car won't start one morning because the battery is dead, I'll be asked why I didn't get it fixed.

:( :( very true...if we dont do as you suggest and it goes pear shaped..then you are in the wrong for not doing it for us!! :) :)

You can get a gadget to test your battery voltage.and explain to the better half that when the battery dies it will take a while to charge and she will have to walk!! :)

I thought I should conclude the story even though it's not very iteresting.

Beeping sound has now stopped and the mornings are now warmer.

Wife wouldn't take the car to the garage, so I eventually did.

Battery OK.

Can only guess the beeping was a cold weather warning as suggested by the VW dealer.

The manufacturewrs are fine, it's the muppets they allow to service and maintain them where the problems start.

The final page in the last chapter.

Drove in to the city on Saturday morning and had problem starting the Galaxy.

On way home popped into Wilco Fast Fit and had them check the battery. It failed on the starting load test. New one fitted for

When you need the right advice, where are you going to come!

The trouble with batteries when they get old is they can show the correct voltage, but not be providing the amperage required. When that happens the only way to test is under full load. And the vast majority of workshops use a static load that is no where near a 600 amp pull when they test the battery.

rear power sockets - If the supplying voltage falls below 12 volts, the power sockets will turn off automatically. If the ignition is switched off , a chime will sound 5 times.
