Guest beanhead's dad Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 I've had a browse through the forum and would be grateful for any suggestions... When the gears engage into 1st, 3rd & 5th the change is harsh and not a smooth action. When the car comes to a halt, say in traffic, you have to stay a bit further back cos it engages 1st & lurches forward! Nothings been identified at the dealer's using their diagnostics programme, they say the transmission oil's burnt and there are pressure problems in the gearbox As I said I'd be grateful for any suggestions Cheers... dipsomaniac Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 if the car is outside of any warranty and the dealer hasn't identified any external faults - the only thing you can do is take it to an auto specialist. Initially they will change the transmission fluid and filter, check the wiring/connectors, read any fault codes and test drive. It will cost approx Quote
Guest beanhead's dad Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 doesn't sound very healthy! A mate had a gearbox in his changed & it took them (dealer) ages to get it running properly, the electrics for the auto couldn't be sussed out , so he was told - though he didn't have the same problem/symptoms Mine's done about 115.000 miles - I wouldn't be too keen on a recon, would a new transmission affect the engine though? AndeeeH Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 I had my transmission fluid changed by QAS in Bristol for about Quote
Guest beanhead's dad Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Has there been any noticable difference in gear changing, smoothness since the oil change? Quote
greg_68 Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I had exactly the same problem as you after I was in a right crunch last year. Luckily the insurance agreed to change the gearbox for a recon one. The real bad news is that mine has started to do exactly the same thing about 2 weeks ago. The only good thing is i think it is still under guarentee. Mine is especially bad when very cold but ok after about 10 minutes driving. Quote
dipsomaniac Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 when the transmission fluid is low (fluid leak/wrongly filled) it does result in some erratic changes and loss of drive when the gearbox is cold. a new gearbox would have to learn parameters and driving style. Quote
AndeeeH Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Mine had only done about 36k and I didn't have the same problems as you but I had 'cooked' the oil and had it changed as a precaution. Was quoted about Quote
