Barlidge Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Hi folks, I am planning to change the timing belt on my 2001(Y) 1.9 TDi this weekend, and, after speaking to Lloyd at Hans Motors he gave me two prices for parts. Both included the tensioner and relay roller but one also included a Timing Belt Vibration Damper. Does anyone know if this should also be changed as a matter of course? I have searched the forums but only found a couple of references to red dust which may have come from the damper. I was maybe thinking of changing the alternator belt & tensioner also, while I'm there. Many thanks for any help. Quote
tim-spam Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 There are 2 rollers. One is part of the tensioner assembly, and the other is basically a guide to stop the belt flapping around - ideally, both should be replaced when replacing the belt. Quote
familyman Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006  Don't take a chance on timing belt bits -might as well renew while it's stripped apart -well worth it for peace of mind Quote
kawasaki-krazy Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Hey Barlidge The timing belt on mine is due anytime and I was just wondering what sort of prices you had been quoted. Or is it an easy enough job to do yourself?? If so how long a job is it for a (reasonably competent) DIYer, and anything special to watch out for. KK Quote
Barlidge Posted March 10, 2006 Author Report Posted March 10, 2006 Lloyd from Hans Motors (I got contact from another post) quoted me Quote
