gazzer666 Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Noticed some new info on the new Galaxy on Ford's website. So who is thinking about getting one? http://www.ford.co.uk/ie/geneva06_show/gen..._intro/-/-/-/-# Quote
mumof4 Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 it looks funny...not sure if i like it. Quote
Guest TSR 2 Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I agree. It's a strange looking beast, looks a bit Renault or Mazda-ish. Quote
katman Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I dont like the glass roof :( I have a general hatred of sun roofs as the light reflects off the rear of my glasses and I cant see a bloody thing !!! Quote
jkspoff Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 :( Looks Ok, but I don't think I can afford one for a while, will it have the VW bits that make the current one that bit better ? i.e. VW diesel / Bosch electronics etc or will it be the Ford diesel ? I suppose it must have improvements over the old one in some way shape or form. ;) Quote
sasquartch Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Would be interesting to know if an auxiliary heater will be fitted !! I think the new Gal is totally Ford, based on a stretched C-Max or Mondeo platform so unlikely to be any VW bits. Quote
Mussey1 Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I think the S-max looks far better than virtually any mpv on the market. Unless you really need the space, I can see many people downsising to the S-max as it will cost approximately the same as the current galaxy and looks way more sporty. I changed from a Galaxy to a Corolla Verso and have to admit that the rearmost chairs are only used very occasionaly. In normal day to day use the smaller car is fine. If however I had 4 kids, I would choose a 'proper' mpv as the fold away rear seats are not really good enough for everyday use/long journeys. Mussey1. Quote
Guest blatters Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 I'm not smitten by the external looks - the front is OK, the side looks a bit weird towards the rear and the back end is not much of a looker. Inside looks clean around the dash area. But the rear seats fold flat into the floor and I'd need to be sure that they all offer true long-distance comfort. Frankly, I'd rather have removable seats and gain the extra room and comfort - will need to see. Essentially, whilst I love my current Galaxy I'm not exactly drooling for the new one. That's bad news for Ford, I suspect - unless I'm an atypical user. There's plenty of others in this niche and I'm quite looking forward to the new Sharan being released as the early photo's in Auto Express magazine have got me enthused. And it will be a VW. Best wishes. Blatters Quote
gregers Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 so it looks like seat are the only ones continuing with the current car then?i wonder if the prices will go up? regards gregers Quote
_dg Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 Let me be the first to ask if Vag-Com will work with it, what is causing the damp carpet in the passenger footwell, and if there may be a problem with the MAF sensor. lol The microsite is crap, polished but crap. I like the interior views -futuristic except for the 1950's speedo and clocks etc :( But the external is bland and just like most other MPVs today. They could have done more with the styling considering that this design will have to be around for a few years. It looks just like a bigger Zafira Spot the difference Zafira http://www.carnorama.com/graphics/ford/FordNewGalaxySFB.jpg New Galaxy http://web.opel.cz/tz/new-zafira.jpg Quote
big_kev Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 Dont like the idea of the ACC with Radar that turns your throttle of if you are too close to the car in front. It sounds worse than the current daft ABS brakes idea that is forced on everyone and cause more fatalities than they prevent. Now if it was at the back and flashed your brake lights when the car ( most likely a BMW ) behind was too close , that would be a good idea  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted March 4, 2006 Report Posted March 4, 2006 If I had the money, I'd already have paid a deposit at my local dealer for the 2006 MY Galaxy - just hope it has front and rear parking sensors as standard. Ford is still not releasing much technical info on the Gal and S-Max; dimensions and weights do not yet seem to have been made available to the public or motoring press. In my dream garage, it could end up being a toss-up between the new Gal and an Espace V-6 diesel - so far, Ford has stated that the top diesel will be the 138bhp TDCI unit as fitted to the current Mondeo. So, no D5 from Volvo or V6 twin turbodiesel from Jaguar, yet the Volvo petrol 5-cylinder unit will be fitted to the S-Max. Quote
ole Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 so it looks like seat are the only ones continuing with the current car then?i wonder if the prices will go up? regards gregers Heard something about Seat going for the smaller, sporty cars. No longer doing the big ones.... Quote

No longer doing the big ones.... Heard a similar thing! but Seat have dropped the latest 2.0 TDI unit into the Bammer so they must intend on keeping it for a while longer? :( although I notice they have cut back on the range of power plants available :) no more VR6 :) Quote
JToh Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 :( Looks like a bigger C-Max to me which is a very ordinary car. The C-Max is the car Ford introduced when it said that families normally do not use all 7 seats whilst others stretched their respective versions to offer a 7-seat option. To fill this void, Ford is bringing out the D Max, leaving the C-max a bit like the Fusion ie, no one knows what is intended market is! The new galaxy is supposed to be bigger, taller and wider and prices start around 21k which is steep! I am going to take a closer look once it is in the showroom but the new Sharan seems a better bet! JT Quote
tim-spam Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Having looked at the animation of the seat folding mechanism, I can't see how there is significantly more luggage space with all 7 seats up than on the current model - it certainly appears to be similar. Not having to remove the seats is good though, although I guess the total luggage space will be less than the current model with all the seats out - probably not a problem for most people. Quote
mumof4 Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Dont have to remove the seats????? Kind of takes all the fun out of it when you got to clean the car or fill the car up with junk to take to the skip!!.Always takes my hubby ages to put the seats back in...he usually gives up then i do it quick as a flash!! :( Quote
