Does anyone have any idea what could cause a plasticy type rattle to come from the passenger dashboard area.I have had a Ford mechanic have a look and he reckons the noise is coming from somewhere inside the dash which he states would be a costly job .Is worse when i go on an uneven road or a speed bump.

It;s just irritating.I've replaced all the plastic trims and its still there.

Has anyone had any similar probs and how was it resolved ??

Does anyone know how to remove the dashboard or am i going over the top here !!

Regards,

Paul. :D :D :D :D ;)

it will take you ages to find whats rattling, and there's always another one that takes its place. i would suggest a cheap alternative...

Hi Paul,

Had the same problem on my 2000 Mk2. Drove me bonkers as it was intermittant but seemed to get worse on long runs. Couldn't find what was causing the rattle but cured the noise by forcing a strip of window draught proofing foam into the gap between the end of the dashboard and the body in front of the door frame. I think this was enough to force the end of the dash against what ever was inside it causing the rattle. ;) Andy.

Does it happen more at speed?

The plastic trim that runs along the bottom edge of the windscreen (outside) is known to rattle against the windscreen and it can sound like the rattle is inside.

Some delicate twisting, tweaking and padding out normally cures it.

You could always turn the radio up

 Hiya, I seem to have the same problem, have tried the rear view mirror fix but that didn't work, seems to rattle only when above 55 mph!!!

Love the car but hate this problem!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Paul, have you tried placing some thin fabric between the dash edge and the door closure? This has helped me.

Also, someone suggested that there is value in wiping a cloth with WD40 soaked into it along the edges of the rubber door seals. I've done this and, whilst it is early days yet, it does seem to have cured the 'creaking' noises as the bodywork flexes under load.

All the best and sorry to hear of your ongoing cabin noises. They drove me nuts and I know how frustrating it can be. If there's one thing that puts me off another VW or Ford MPV it's the build quality of the rattling cabin.
