strouf Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Hello again. Being a new Galaxy owner , I 'm a little confused with the use of the new a/c and heating unit controls. The temperature here (Greece) is such that I would like to have the air fan off, but let some air come through the heater radiator as the car is running. In my previous car,I could select the teperature of the incoming air by turning the temp dial. how can I do this in my new Galaxy? strouf Posted March 1, 2006 Author Report Posted March 1, 2006 Dont know if my question is not expressed properly (my english is not that good) , or you are also confused with those digital controls ! Suppose the unit is off, and you're driving with a speed of 50m/h... Is there any air coming through the vents? Which ones ? Can you control incoming air temperature and/or direction whilst the fan is off? Quote
Guest blatters Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I assume you have a car with digital climate control at the bottom of the centre dash area? Using the up/down arrows you can manually set the speed of the fans either on the front or rear cabin heaters. As soon as you do then you have overridden the car's auto climate control insofar as this relates to fan speed and the strength of airflow coming into the cabin. I'm not sure if you will get very much air flow, if any, with the fans off. I recall that if you do this the unit may actually shut down. Personally, I leave mine on Econ setting for most of the winter when it's cool. I run the aircon on Auto setting a few times each month to keep the parts lubricated. The cabin temperature looks after itself - after all, isn't that what climate control is all about? Regards Blatters Quote

Yes it is and you defeat yours too! The compressor is very useful in winter time and controls the humidity in the cabin too. Windows will demist quicker if it's left on auto and strangely, the compressor will last longer. Regards - JB Quote
Guest greenfingers Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Sorry to resurrect an old post, but I too am confused by the climate control ventilation. Even with the fan on full, I find the blower inadequate. In other cars I've owned, with the vents open and the fan on zero or 1, usually there is enough airflow to keep the cabin fresh. It seems to me that my Sharan shuts off all airflow if you turn off the fan - then you have no temperature control and the windows start to steam up. Also, when using 'auto' I get annoyed by the fan speed changing on its own when you adjust the temperature setting. Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Also, when using 'auto' I get annoyed by the fan speed changing on its own when you adjust the temperature setting. I guess that's the idea of "Auto" though  the fan speed will change to achieve the new temperature in the quickest possible time. I hardly ever change my CC settings. Auto and 18 Quote
Dave-G Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 ERM: Greenfingers... If you change the temp settings the fans start up soon after the sensors indicate a need to adjust the required temp that you asked for  Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 or set the temp settings higher or lower higher lol and hold the auto button 4 five seconds to set the cc to the new settings etc ;) Quote
Guest greenfingers Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Maybe I phrased that wrong. I was looking for help, not ridicule! :angry2: I have dual climate control.I prefer not to use the aircon unless needed (Economy and reliability in mind). When I need to demist the windows (which is frequently, due to unestablished causes), I switch to auto from my usual setting of around three bars of front fan in econ mode at about 21 degrees, and the climate control does what is asked (adjusts fan speed front and back until the desired temperature is achieved). The windows soon clear, so I press the econ button in the hope of getting my original settings back, but the front and rear blowers are still blasting, so I have to manually reset again. Also, the rear temp adjusts itself if I alter the front temp, which is annoying when I want cool air in the front and the baby needs warm in the back. I would like to be able to get into the car and not have to mess around with the heater controls, and not have to test the reliability of the air conditioning system! Another thing - where does the air go when the front, footwell and demist vents are all switched off?I'm not asking for hot air jokes! Quote
