The thing that worries me about on line quotes with companies I've never heard of is, If I have a prang will I be waiting six months to get paid out a fraction of the cars worth.

Protected no claims

Not realy got my head around this? Is it worth paying the extra for?

If I had a claim and at the end of the year wanted to move to another company. Could I take all of my no claims bonus with me because I had protected it.

Or would I have to stay with the same company because that is where the protection was from. If this is the case is it not just a way of tying you in?

If you don,t take protected no claims out do you lose all claim free years in one stroke? With any company

iirc if you dont have protected insurance and you make a claim you will loose a propotionate ammount of no claims,im sure it states in most policys you will only be able to have a claim(or 2)in any 1 year even with protected.

i stand to be corrected

:( If you have some decent no claims bonus it's well worth hanging on to ,once you get to 60% it would be a shame to lose it ! also you can transfer bonus to a new insurer ,and most companies are pretty good at giving written proof when transfering over to a new company

Note that a protected no claims will not prevent your insurance going up in the event of a fault claim. The insurance company will still increase your premium as you now represent a greater risk.

I've never protected for this reason. Last year at renewal time someone attempted to make a fraudulent claim on our insurence. We were sent a renewal notice with our no claims only reduced from 70% to 62.5% but the premium was loaded by

I think protected no claims is a must really, it only takes some idiot to smash into you and drive off and you lose 65% no claims which is quite a hefty chunk.

for the little extra it costs i think its worth it.

My ford galaxy is insured with Vauxhall insurance  they make you get it repaired at vauxhall and you have to have a vauxhall courtesy car. but at the end of the day they have given me an outstanding service so far. When you ring them you are straight through to a helpful human being not a machine.

none of this press 1 for this 2 for that lark (which I install by the way  ) and holding on the phone for an hour.

Also last year someone crashed into the back of my car and smashed the bumper, tailgate and damaged my towbar 4 days before i was due to go away in my caravan.

I explained this to my insurance company who got my car in the repairers the same day, and had it back to me immaculately clean and repaired within 3 days.

They aren't the cheapest but I am reluctant to change because of the good service i have received.

But would an insurance company remove your entire 65% no claims in one go? As quoted in my example above, removal of 1 or 2 years no claims would be the norm for someone with a full no claims. If you have good driving record the 10-20% you save on your premium each year by not taking out protection will cover will cover any occasional mishaps.

i always thought if you had a claim all your no claims discount were lost?
