Guest Sach Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Hi I checked thorugh the Tech section and haven't found a suitable post so here goes: I (my wife !) has a 1999 2.3 Ghia X that is currently refusing to start. It will jump start: Battery has been charged overnight, but all you get is a very loud ticking noise from the the area of the fuses. Logic suggests the battery is not holding charge. Main dealers are very vague (even given all the correct info) about the correct battery. The current battery apears to be non-standard and doesn't have a label/power rating. Any advice on suitable batterys and suppliers? Is it better to go for the higher power rating or something aroung the 61 amps? Cheers Sach Quote
Guest Colin Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 This information may help, as I had a simailar problem where the car would not start and all I got was a ticking noise and the engine would not turn over. This turned out to be a problem with on the posts on the battery. Using a volt meter there was only 8 volts accress the top of the two posts and 12.5 volts between the buttom of the posts. This was corrected by locating the faulty post checking voltage between the top of one post and the bottom of the other. Once the faulty post was found then the round post can be removed using a pair of grips and a screwdriver to ease the round post off the battery (the round post is just a piece of lead on a square post). This can then be cleaned up and the post pushed back on. This may save the need for a new battery Quote
Guest Sach Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Hi Colin, Thanks for that: My voltmeter was on permament loan, so I ended up getting a new heavy duty battery (from Halfords) seeing Ford couldn't tell me the right one, and didn't stock it in anycase! Anyway, problem solved: but I haven't thrown the old battery so I'll give it a go. cheers Sanjiv Quote
