Paid about the same for Alhambra 1st service...

Incredible for an oil and filter change isn't it?

)They did nothing else(

You may have seen my expletives regarding the fact that they overfilled by 1 Litre (NOT GOOD) and forgot to reset the service indicator.....

Check the oil level B4 you drive away!

The wheels weren't removed, the tyre pressures weren't checked.,......and so on.

GOOD LUCK!

had also a overfill. I discovered it after 2000miles, still 1 cm above max.

returned to the garage and they pumped it out of the filler stick opening.

could do no harm they said. so always check your level after a service job.

The main concern with overfilling the oil is that it could flood the EGR and cause neat oil to enter the engine, be partly burnt and thence destroy the Cat. This is likely to be accompanied by surging and irregular running, since the oil acts as additional fuel...the MIL may light since the ECU detects that the engine is running outside its commanded level.

Overfilling can also cause the oil in the sump to froth because the crank then acts like a Moulinex mixer in the excess oil.

Once the oil gets badly aerated, the oil pressure drops to a level which may cause permanent damage. I suspect that frothed oil would also be more likely to build up in the camcover and therefore increase the likelihood of oil entering the induction system.

In reality, there will be some margin of overfilling before it becomes critical. What that is is anyone's guess. Which is why we have to assume that any overfilling cannot be accepted.

Yes Mr Intruder the very stuff you recommended to another person on this forum for his 2.0L petrol Galaxy (5W-30's).

But they have changed it.

A week or so after they changed it for fully synthetic 5W-40's and spent a lot of time trying to sort out the drivers door wind noise and the intermittent dry(?) bearing noise which is starting to reappear now its colder in the morning.

When I got the car back it had been running for nearly 2 hours and covered 1.6 miles (or so).

Over the years I have learned not to expect miracles. I've had problems with Volvo and Rover service agent of a more expensive kind than I've had so far.

When I buy a new car first thing I go for is Manufacturers Service book if I can get it.

With Ford I don't need it now the TIS is a good start. This Forum is third and my friendly neighbourhood Ford mechanic is second!!

Some oils are able to be used in both. One only presumes that this is what the Ford oil was. I was not too happy.

Anyway this is about costs

Here it is

(gulp) he's done 10,000 miles since 1st September - that's over 1,000 per week.

I think he's just quoting the service price, rather than saying it's due...?

..except that he said "Will let you know how it goes..."

implying that it's nearly due.

Is this true, Iain, and if so, in which roads are you ploughing two furrows?
