I am a newbie and finding my way round the site and looking for any dismatling instructions to see if I can identify the problem with the Aux heater bain of owners everywhere. Can anyone help with the air flow through the unit? (it seems to fire up regularly if I am at motorway speeds and very seldom in town, but spectacular if and when it does) Does anyone know where the air intake pipe goes to as it disappears into the sill? I hope to also check out the integral air blower and maybe glow plug and metering pump for bad connection.

Cheers

Smoking is incomplete combustion.

The pipe does go into the sill, and thats where it ends, just inside the sill. It is a straight-through pipe with no filters etc.

The most likely cause of your problem is a faulty glow plug, a revised, hotter version of which is used on the higher heat output models of the heater.

As the MOF has pointed out, your best bet is to use the search button, but note you have to change the default settings or it will only look for posts made over the last week.

Thank you for your welcome and advice MO4, this type of site is new to me as I am a forum virgin!

Masked Marauder Thanks for the info on the air intake, I did wonder if there was any filter or something to get blocked before I got serious and dismantled anything so cheers for that. I altered the defaults on the search as you pointed out and uncovered loads of info.

It looks as you say that the cause of intermittant ignition is the glowplug and from reading some other correspondence it is the line of least cost and what I shall try first next weekend if I can source the glowplug by then.(Not the main stealer)

Cheers

Thanks to my BERU patch I've now given up smoking!

Firstly many thanks to martinblackett for his help and speedy supply of a glowplug. I have indeed got round to replacing the plug this week end with help from Ivors pictures. After an hour and a quarter in the freezing cold with numb hands covered in diesel and tears in my eyes from the wind, I turned the key and presto she lit 1st time. Now the unburnt fuel has been purged there is just a satisfying puff of smoke as it starts up each time now then nothing.

I went indoors smiling and holding the offending plug and my wife said it's surprising how something that small can give you so much satisfaction!! LOL
