Guest Alan Combe Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 My toddler is nearly three now and is getting to big for the Integral Child SeatWhat is the safest thing I can buy to put her in ? Quote
mumof4 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 My 2 yr old sits in a forward facing child seat in the middle row behind me.you can get these seats up to 7 yrs Quote
AndeeeH Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Alan is that the seat that is also suitable for an adult if you fold the backrest up to hide the baby harness? If so it should also be fine for toddlers if you leave the sitting part in the 'up' position exposing the footrest and using the normal seat belt. Andy. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 no...a 3 yr old is too young to sit in a "booster" like seat with a normal seat belt....risk if it you want but even my 2 yr old can undo a normal seatbelt as we had to sit her on a booster seat for one journey within 5 mins she had it undone....just as well the galaxy is so big that i could climb over and sort her out!you want a 5 point belt for the child.you know how wriggly a 2/3 yr old can be when they have had enough of sitting down.least in a 5 point one you know she is going to stay there. AndeeeH Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 My 3 year old was quite happy to travel thousands of miles in his 'grown-up' seat. With the seat belt tucked behind the additional neck rest it fitted perfectly and he never once tried to escape. Andy. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Every kid is different...my 4 yr old sits on a booster with a thingy that makes the seat belt go across a child more comftably....you know the thing, it connects both straps so you can adjust the belt.. ..ah blast cant remember the name..Anyway..i know that she wont escape...but my youngest puts houdini to shame!!!you have to know your child...do they escape????...or not budge!! Quote
gregers Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 over the years weve tried allsorts of child restraints, the little buggers can get out of all of em,we even bought a device to cover the seat belt clasp so the little blighters cant undo the belt,we fitted it drove out of the carpark and the little sod broke it,it puts the fear of christ up you when your driving down a main road and one of them appear beside you. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 Not half....our youngest can now get out of her child seat so we were going to get a cover for the clasp...we found out she could get out when hubby had to brake sharply and she hit the back of my seat!!..hubby yelled at me thinking i hadnt strapped her in..big row ensues...he straps her in...drive off ..5 mins later she puts her hands over daddys eyes to play peekabo!!..just as well the cars off road!! AndeeeH Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 There are 5 years between my two so we found it better if the oldest, now 11 travelled in the front, while my other half travelled in the back with the youngest, now 6. Have used the same arrangement since he was born 3 Galaxies ago. The biggest thing on long journeys is keeping them occupied: plenty of books, coloured pencils(not wax crayons) and paper for drawing, games, music, food and drink. It works for us, it has to if we are going to make the most of our holiday where every hour spent in the car is one less on the beach. Andy. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 21, 2006 Report Posted February 21, 2006 lovely boys glad your arrangement worked for you..my kids are a nightmare Quote
NikpV Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 My Eldest son (now 4) undid the belt once when he was 3 - he only did it ONCE by the time SWMBO finished both he and I needed clean underwear :D and a tissue for our eyes :D   I think it happened once with my daughter as well - they would rather travel like that than in a 'baby' seat B) Quote
