paulmpaciorek Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 Hello. I know I'm gonna get slated for asking this B) but how the fookin hell do you navigate around TIS ???? Am I missing something here ( cringes waiting for the obvious replies :D ) or is there a search facility where you enter a key word....yes I have tried that box that says SEARCH but it always comes back with no results no matter wot I type in !!!!Reason I ask is I want to see how to replace the front wheel bearing..so if someone can give me the dummies guide on how to find this particular page I would appreciate this. No wonder Fraud techies always have a bemused look on their faces :) Paul VR6 Have I got the correct part number...(I think I can use ETKA...mmm or can I !!) 7MO 498625 Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 It's intuitive, if you're a 5 year old. If you're an intellgent adult, it's incomprehensible. Keep at it. it's well worth it 'cos it's all there. It's difficult to advise because I don't know how far you've got but try moving your mouse slowly over the icons - top left and click on each in turn, keeping an eye on the model selection. Use the right hand icon on the bottom row to go back one step and look for the blocked right pointing arrows on some of the pages (some of which scroll down for miles!) to find more infomation. Be patient, drink lots off coffee. IT IS worth it. Ron. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 dont worry..still trying to find my wat thru mine...click on the spanner..think thats it..im still going thru every section to find what i need....hubbys feeling neglected now!! :) Quote
Masked Marauder Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 Reason I ask is I want to see how to replace the front wheel bearing Ah, there is a job! You either need the patience of a saint or the ingenuity of the A Team to get the bearing out of the bearing housing. Or take the bearing housing off and take it to an engineering shop and get the old bearing pressed out and the new one pressed in. Quote
paulmpaciorek Posted February 18, 2006 Author Report Posted February 18, 2006 Ah, there is a job! ....your not kidding........I have found it on TIS..........garage job me thinks...or I could always turn the radio up and ignore the noise  Quote
paulmpaciorek Posted February 19, 2006 Author Report Posted February 19, 2006 Can you remove the bearing in situ or do you HAVE TO take the housing off ??The noise is getting louder !!!! Quote
Masked Marauder Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 Oh you can do it in situ if your the A Team. You need to find a way of getting the old bearing out and the new one in. With a bit of assorted kit like pullers and threaded rod and ingenuity it can no doubt be done. Quote
paulmpaciorek Posted February 19, 2006 Author Report Posted February 19, 2006 MMMMM mmmmm "Pity the fool " that tries this comes to mind!!! Ah I miss the A Team....what you can do with a few meters of angle iron and some sparklers !!! So what sort of pain am I likely to endure in my arse pocket for this job when I call in the A Team ??? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 Well the main problem is getting the old bearing out. It might just drive out with a suitable sized pipe used as a drift, or pull out using a pipe & end cap with a hole drilled through it and some threaded rod to pull it with. I have not done the job on a Galaxy my self, but I have on other cars, and the main problem is the bearing has to come out evenly as it jams if you pull or drift it out squint. Quote
paulmpaciorek Posted February 20, 2006 Author Report Posted February 20, 2006 ....well I'm not going to tackle the wheel bearing  so I rang VW to price up the job...decieded I could do with a laugh as it is Monday !! .....price Quote
