There have been several postings regarding cruise contrrol faults and the system varies depending on petrol or diesel engines due to different engine management systems etc. One possibility is perished or split hoses under the bonnet - but sometimes the split is so small that it is not easy to find.Good luck in getting it sorted.Ivor.
