Guest kimbo Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 Our Galaxy has died! and we are stuck. I have read lots of other threads regarding starting problems and we have followed most of the advice but nothing seems to help. We have rung two different Ford garages to be told "you will have to bring it in..." Everywhere we turn we are told it needs to be plugged in and only Ford can sort the faults as only Ford have the codes (each car has its own code). Yeah and we know that won't be cheap. So in a nutshell, 1999 2.3 auto, had it 3 years, had a sticking gear selector inhibitor which meant we had to waggle the shift around. That seemed to settle until about a year ago and stuck in a carpark up North (we're in Warks) my hubby had to dismantle the cowling and fiddle with a screw and got it going. Had to keep doing that on and off that day and then it seemed to settle down. Been to France 3 years for hols and never a problem. Oh didn't mention the remote locking has never worked despite many attempts to reprogram the key - we have 2 plain black and one remote. Anyway in the last few weeks it has stalled when putting it into drive but only on first starting. My hubby says it lost power briefly last week and seemed to 'restart' whilst driving. However 2 nights ago I started it put it into drive and it stalled. It did that a couple of times and then nothing. It turns over but refuses to start. We have now noticed that when you sit in and shut the door the sensor light on the door flashes like crazy. Following advice read on this site we tried to reset keys - no luck, we think it eventually flashes a code 1 and 6 which we think means "take to Ford and let them fleece you". A mobile mechanic has told my hubby to check relay 30 and possibly 167 and kindly told him where to find them - Ford wouldn't!!So anyone out there who can shed some light and save us money we can't afford?? only other thing of note - maybe is that after about a year we developed a leaky headlining and water dripped through the clock which also has never worked! we had a new screen fitted, just wondering as some of the key programming advice says to point remote to the sensors near the rear view and that obviously had been letting water in. Guest kimbo Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 OK also forgot to mention another minorfault - the abs light has been on for a year but does not seem to affect braking, had new pad thingys a few months prior to that Quote
Masked Marauder Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 OK also forgot to mention another minorfault - the abs light has been on for a year but does not seem to affect braking, had new pad thingys a few months prior to that It will affect your MOT though! Chances are it is a detached ABS ring on a front CV joint or a faulty wheel sensor. Quote
