Marky Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 erm...don't take this the wrong way but its a question thats got to be asked! have you made sure the switch on the lamp is set to 'door' and not 'on' ??? Quote
tomy Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 It will be a faulty door switch I have had to replace two in the last month, but they are only a fiver each from frauds  Quote
dipsomaniac Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 thanks for your replies. the lights are definately switched to 'door'. how can i tell which switch? i have gone around pushing each one in but it still didn't switch the lights off. are they easy to replace? Quote
steve67car Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 have you checked the tailgate as that gave me problems on my mk1  Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 You've got a Ghia X yes?? Won't this have the little display in the instrument cluster that tells you if one of the doors is open? If they are working it can't be a door switch. Steven Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I dont think it will as the door switches are double pole switches, one side of the switch switches the lights the other side operates the Graphic display panel, unless it's as Steve says and its the rear hatch switch which is part of the lock the only way is to replace the door switch in turn until you find the duff one? dipsomaniac Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 it must be a door switch - can't think of anything else it would be. but which one? i notice that the n/s rear is missing the rubber cover - does anyone know if that would make any difference? if it is not that one it will probably be the drivers door as that is the most used. there is no indication on the instrument cluster that a door is opened - the double switch would explain that. Guest noomsybaby Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 probably that n/s switch if the rubber has gone, the switch as you look at it without the rubber (oo-er missus) looks like it has two parts to it, a thinner pin which slides into the outer part. If this is missing then the door will not push the switch far enough to turn the light off. I have one like this that I suspect the kids have broken off by treading on it as they get out!!!! Basic test open each door in turn and push the switch in as far as it will go, if I remember right there is a delay before lights go out so will have to hold it in for 30 secs (at least I think there is a delay its been that long since my switch broke, must get round to getting it fixed !!) dipsomaniac Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 just had a look at the pin without the rubber - it is one square pin. i am a bit worried now as when i opened the doors the lights which you can't switch off (under dash, back seats) came on and they wouldn't initially switch off when I locked the car. eventually started the engine, switched off and locked the doors again and the lights went out. i am confused now???
