Guest JAB Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 This week, my third ignition coil failed. The car is 23 months old! Previous two were replaced under warranty, and I expect this third one will. However, I asked my dealer to replace all four outstanding old coils on this visit (next Wednesday 27/Aug) but he refuses as "Fords will not sanction it". This is a VW engine, and I note that VW had a recall on all their 2000-2003 2.8 engines to replace the faulty coil packs. Has anyone else had a problem getting a Ford dealer to replace these packs BEFORE they fail? Did anyone get Ford to sanction full replacement? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Complain to Ford Ltd direct. All the coils are suspect and all must be replaced to avoid catastrophic failure, and serious damage to the Cats (you have 2). VW do, as you state. VW are paying for the error, so it is not costing Ford much (about 10 minutes labour). Quote
Guest JAB Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Thanks for reply. I phoned Ford this morning. They say they "have heard rumours that VW were recalling" but "it is Ford's policy to only replace failed parts" so they refused to sanction the replacement of the faulty units". I pointed out the health and safety aspects, but there was a definite take-it-or-leave it attitude. I just hope that the other three coils fail before the warranty runs out! Quote
Guest JAB Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 Sent a fax to Ford's 26 August 2003 to complain about faulty coil packs, addressed to the Manager at Customer Relationship Centre. Had phone call today (29 August 2003) to say manager not available, so minion repeated that Ford's will NOT replace coils until they fail. Claims they have not received any reports through their dealership network of any problems (even though I alone have had three fail).Would those of you who have had failures please drop a note to this site, and more importantly, write to the Manager at Ford Customer Relationship Centre, PO Box 25149, Glagow, G2 4XF, or send a fax to: 0870 2400360. Let's get some action!! Quote
