buford_t_justice Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 is anybody using this bulb in their Shalaxy?? I would like a "whiter light" and some improved range from the headlamps without the expense of a HID conversion and these bulbs are maybe the closest I am going to get to it. however I am keen to avoid a bulb that ends up looking blue all the time (i.e. boy racer in Saxo VTR) and so may have to opt for Osram Silverstar / Philips Vision Plus etc.... i've read the reviews by AutoExpress as given in a link on another topic on this forum but would appreciate some real life experiences. thanks. Guest blatters Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 Hijacker, Where did you get that 'cool' picture from  I can only tell you that the Osram Silverstar is a good, white bulb. Not true Xenon to look at but a whiter light and more intense than the standard bulb. The beam is true. But I also had a problem that the beam alignment on my brand new Galaxy was too short on distance - even when set to zero on the dashboard thing. The dealer adjusted the beam up for longer light throw ahead of the car but not too far to annoy the oncoming cars. Much better now - really impressive. Best is the full beam which is really much beter than the standard bulb by some considerable margin. One thing about the Osram though - the lifetime is not that great. Typically finding that I'm replacing the bulb at annual intervals so not cheap. All the best. And that Saxo VTR thing - agree. But they never have the respectable VTR factory spec. Instead, they have bog standard car (for insurance purposes) and then add a ream of tacky RipSpeed Halfords stuff. But then at least most of them try and avoid crashing the things after spending so much on them! Quote
Mark W Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Hi, I have tried most on them the blue tints the Osram Silverstar and the Philips Vision Plus, the best one I have come across is Philips Power 2 Night. There not cheap, but give you a really white bulb, but what I will say is, after you fit them, get a head light aliment check. Mark Quote

Aproximately 2% (two percent) brighter than the OEM bulbs fitted (which are.....OSRAM) SEATKID reviews OSRAM Silverstars! <_< Quote
buford_t_justice Posted February 15, 2006 Author Report Posted February 15, 2006 finally decided to try some of these bulbs out. I replaced the dipped beam with Philips Ultra Blue Vision 4000K and the sidelights with the freebie blue vision bulbs which were included. Also decided to change the main beam for Philips Vision Plus whilst I was at it !! All I can say is that fitting these is a total bas**rd  , especially the nearside and I'm not looking forward to the time when one of these bulbs blows. The decision had already been made to get the alignment checked out after so I just fit the bulbs by removing the headlights first. Made life much easier!! The results?? Well I would say 90% cosmetic :( and 10% improved range  . The whiter light from the dipped and sidelights is a welcome change from the slightly yellowish standard halogen bulb and goes some way to reminding me of the days when I had xenons on my last car (although there is no subsitute for the real thing). The range is now a little further but I wouldn't discount some of this being down to the realignment. Main beam is also improved with regards to range but the realignment will also have had an impact on this. The verdict?? Cheap as chips when the Blue Vision bulbs cost Quote
