mumof4 Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 Tanks SK...exactly what keith said when he picked up it not 15 mins ago.Makes me feel like a right mug for the amount i paid for it.the one taken off our car looks brand new compared to this one.well ive asked him(keith), if there is any way we can get one working alt from the 2 of them.the one i bought came with a 4 month guarentee so i guess im covered there....but i still feel like a tit. :) <_< :) Quote
seatkid Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 On second look I would say you're looking for trouble fitting that piece of s**t. It has evidently been lying in a scrapyard for 3 or 4 years after coming of a taxi thats been to the moon and back. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 if the diode pack was ok on this one...could it not be fitted to our one????hubby looked at the pic and immediately said send it back..phoned keith and he said that ok it looks crap..hes had to replace a wire in it but he will try it...i dont know <_< a lot about alts....i guess ill learn for the future Quote
seatkid Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 You wanna try and do a lazarus? Your time and nerves not worth anything? Guarantee not worth Dick. What's he gonna do? Find you another? When your'e stuck on the Hard shoulder of the M6 in the pouring rain, with a disintegrated alternator, smashed up engine/radiator and a shorted out battery? Need I go on and on and on...... Send it back - to the crusher where it belongs. Guy was very helpful..he got the exact same car as ours in 2 days ago and there aint much left of it! I bet.... Sounds like a script from the Simpsons.... Quote
toneinblack Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I got to agree mo4 that really does look rough for 75 quid  , for a start that broken casing over the coiling could cause problems, try to get a refund if possible . Quote

mumof4 Posted February 22, 2006 Author Report Posted February 22, 2006 spoke to keith today..said the battery is not holding its chargr so thinks we need a new one.he said should be at 14v but is only at 11v.he thinks with the alt and everything that the battery got cooked.Battery is only 15 months old..how long are they supposed to last on average? Quote
rwtomkins Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Others may correct me but a fully-charged battery should read 12.7v or 12.6v after being taken off the charger for one hour. A battery that reads only 11v after being charged is definitely completely knackered. Most batteries are guaranteed for three years so they should last considerably longer than that. However the silver calcium batteries that newer Galaxies use HATE being fully discharged and are usually permanently damaged if that happens. Batteries for the 1.9tdi require a hell of a lot of welly and are very expensive new. As I posted on the "Best deals" forum, the new one for my 1.9tdi auto costs over Quote
kawasaki-krazy Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Try this site - Its actually an American guy but still good info on batteries http://www.uuhome.de/william.darden//carfaq.htm Hope this helps KK Quote
