bigdaddy Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Before you go to bed,,,,,,,,I looked at the haynes manual,,,,,,it says there are 2 little screws to be undone from the black cover , and 2 clips that must be prised open to remove the black cover :) Quote

bigdaddy Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 the screws are not meant to come out,,,,only to loosen,,,,,the clips are either side of the bosch label,,,,,,the clips are about as wide as a finger,,,,,,,, but I noticed on the label it is a 70 amp alternator,,,,so maybe different to yours Quote
mumof4 Posted February 10, 2006 Author Report Posted February 10, 2006 mine is 120 amp one...bloody heavy i know that much!!like a spinning top !! Quote
bigdaddy Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Just had a look at the one on ebay,,,,,and it is different from the one in haynes manual,,,,,,,,if this is the same as yours then all my posts about the clips,,,may not apply to your alternator :) sorry Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Mumof4 Have a look at the questions on the ebay one I asked for an explanation as to why he had bought it in error and he has posted his reply, might be interesting for you. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 10, 2006 Author Report Posted February 10, 2006 yup...thx neil...was that the one posted last night????....im still not sure even tho it looks exactly like mine!!!..the numbers just dont match and MM said that he couldnt find the part number that he quoted on his alternator.if i knew if mine were bust or not id be happier. :) Quote
seatkid Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Look.....Why don't you phone around all your local Ford, VW and SEAT dealers parts depts. Explain to them what you want (quote them the part number). Don't forget to ask for discount!! I ordered a complete distributor for a Golf last month. My local VW dealer was far cheaper (total cost Quote

mumof4 Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 Ha!!..did it..have informed the supplier and he suggests that it should be ok but if any probs to let him know and hell either give a full refund or source another one Quote
seatkid Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 <_< What a heap of cr*p! Its OLD and corroded, the frame is broken with chunks missing. The damage to the frame could mean winding damage and structural integrity issues. It may work, but its way past its sell by date and the regulator brushes and bearings will certainly be well worn. For a tenner it may be worth a shot - but nothing more... Quote
