Alternator

Right guys....been told by garage that i need a 2lite diesel 1.3volt alternator....i have been scouring round,(on e-bay)..if any of you guys happen to find one on e-bay(that i miss)...can you please let me know????..Hopeing to save some money!!

Asked hubby if keith gave him a part number...he said no..but have got other half to ring to check.(or if you know of somewhere where i can get one cheap.)

You could get the one off your motor rebuilt, shouldn't cost the eart, usually new brushes with rectifier and control unit as options.

really???..i did see a kit on ebay...wasnt sure if i could use it.go tto do a school run now...but when i get the chance ill have another looksie.

Generally an alternator will only need brushes changing or a new diode pack.

 

A refurbished one will also have new bearings and the commutator re-trued, but if your going for economy then the brushes are the first thing to try if you are going down the DIY route.

I suspect that due to this particular Gal's history, a control unit would be a good idea.

Going to sound like a daft q...but what is a control unit????Hubby got voltage wrong...need a 120amp??that sound better???

got told the diode pack was burnt out....looked up diode on ebay....and all that came up were these long wire type thingies for radios.

got heated windscreens but not seats...120 is what keith said...but ill have a look if i get time this morning seat/mm.thx for that..i was wondering sa most of the ones i have seen are 90amp. :)

I mean your battery will be about 70 amps, so 90 amp alternator. Although I doubt much will be wrong with your alternator. Ring round a few places, we have someone who overhauls your alternator for about

I did have a look on the bosch website....said they do this...but i couldnt find where to do it,though it came up that they have a place in swindon....maybe ill give it a ring and see if they will do it?

Where are you mum. I am sure unlees you live in the wilderness someone on here maybe able to help. You may be living next door to me (even tho they don't have a Galaxy or 4 kids so can't be you then) given you location you could be in luck.

 

You certainly aren't the typical wife are you? :) mine would have got me to find a place to get it fixed. :)

OK mumof6, I have had a look at the service manual and changing the brushes or voltage regulator (diode pack) is easy peasy lemon squeezy.

 

So why not whip it off and have a look....
