Guest Boggler Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 Mark, It sounds like your Head gasket has gone. Replacing that will be a lot cheaper than a new Engine. I should get the Garage to lift the Head off and check, you may have warped the Head when the problem occurred but again that ight be rectifiable without replacing the complete engine. If I were you I'd also think of going to a different Garage, if the one you have been to already feels a new Engine is the fix for a blown Head Gasket, and they have not investigated further, it sounds like pure laziness and/or greed to me. Guest Andy Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 A diesel engine at 115000 k is still a new engine ,it should be able to go on for 250000 k,just to think a large number of taxi diesels do 3-400000 k before they are knackered,,,It is quite common for alloy heads to crumble and warp,Especially after being allowed to cook,you can have it crack tested at your local engineering shop,they pressurize the head and if there is a crack they WILL find it,if it is just warped get it skimmed that usually sorts the problem out,i realise that investigating the problem could be costly but a far site cheaper than a new engine,,,let us know how you get on............... Ventoux Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I would not recommend to change the engine too. Quity expensive being aware the age of you car. However it is difficult to say how reliable car you can have after reparation. I would say, the best way is to repair and after to sell. Quote
