Hi Everyone,

I have poor acceleration on my 1999 1.9 TDI Galaxy . I've read alot about the possability that it is probably the Maf sensor. I purchased this one from Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...me=STRK:MEWN:IT

Please look at the description on Ebay. It looked OK to me.

I changed the Maf yesterday and took it for a drive around the block. There was no acceleration for the first for the first 300 yds. Then the acceleration kicked in but was no better than my old MAf. I left the "new" Maf on, but every time I start up it does the same, the acceleration is dead for the first 300 yards and then kicks in. So the "new" Maf is worse than the one I took off. Do you think I've been conned and sold a duff Maff, or do you think it is OK and I have a different problem.

Cheers

How did you know that this MAF was the right one for your car?

The lads on this site (who know a lot more than me about MAF) have said that there are many variations on the MAF across the Galaxy range and age profile of the car. The eBayer said he had got the wrong one - maybe you have?

I think you need to provide the parts supplier with your car chassis code and then they check the right one for you.

seatkid (knows his stuff) warned me to be careful if buying on eBay for this item for the foregoing. I would check with a Ford dealer the part code and then compare this to the eBayer's description.

Best wishes.

Cheers Blatters. I,ve read a lot about Mafs on this forum and I,ve found out that the part number for my Galaxy is Bosch part number : 0 280 217 121 :.

That is the part number listed on Ebay and it is exactly the same as mine off my Galaxy

An Ebayer wrote....

I brought this for my P reg Galaxy, but it was actually the wrong one for me.  Unfortunately, the part was non-returnable so I am therefore listing it on ebay to recoup my costs.

The part number is: 95VW12B529 BB

The FINIS code is: 1051396

The unit is supplied by Ford but it also has a Bosch part number on it of: 0 280 217 121 (if this is of any help to you!!).

Please check with your local Ford dealer, that this part is the right one for your car before bidding, as I will not be able to give any refund on this item.

Lets get this straight - If you go to a dealer and order a part, they should ask you something about your car (reg no. or engine no.) They are under a duty of obligation then to supply the correct part or take it back. This guy is implying that Ford sold him the wrong part and wont take it back.

Cobblers.

Note the condition of the box on the photograph. Note his location...."the back of beyond"...isnt that saying something?

Have you been sold a second hand part? Maybe he just swapped the sensors........maybe he just cleaned up the old sensor.....

Oh, the joys of ebay...... :D

do you think it is OK and I have a different problem.
Maybe, but I don't have a crystal ball(s)..:D...a full description of the faults and any tests/checks you've done is usually whats required for starters.....

We've all been there and done that. It was just your turn this week :D

With 99.9% positive feedback your seller seemed worth the bid.

All the best.

The O ring looks a bit "old".

I can't see on the photo but there is a date stamp (arrow mark). The arrow points to the month and there should some numbers either side of the arrow which should give the year of manufacture...

Don't know, but it looks as if the business end (the one with the large arrow) looks stained / wear marks to me. What was the date mark?

When I changed my MAF, the the old housing had a grill that was black, the new one had a bright shiny stainless coloured grill.

Sorry Seat My eyes are playing up. I can just make out the circle with the arrow.

It has got 0to the left and 2 to the right of the arrow, and the arrow is pointed to the 7.

Which means it was manufactured in July 2002..... 3 and a half years old.. ..... At least its not the original off his P reg!

If you look on the housing there should also be a similar mark somewhere. This may give the evidence youre looking for.

Did it come with the end caps? (see photo) and how about a shot of the Ford label on the box.... http://photo.vagteam.com/MAF%20Sensor%204.JPG

This is what a "new" one should look likehttp://photo.vagteam.com/MAF%20Sensor%201.JPG

Well that does it I reckon! The date on the label has been tampered with (and it was on the ebay photo) to remove the year - I reckon it says 22-Aug-02. If you take the label to a Ford dealer he may be able to help confirm this (bar code and order info)
