Galaxy23 Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 Hello folks,I've noticed smoke and followed by a strong smell of diesel coming from the car.I have noticed it on two occasions of late, but it doesn't always do it.The smoke seems to come from the passenger side of the vehicle towards the rear. The heater seems to work ok and makes the noise like a jet engine when the engine is turned off. Is my gal starting to develop a problem or is it normal to get some smoke (i assume its from the auxillary heater ) on occasions. Regards, Paul Quote
dave_m Posted February 1, 2006 Report Posted February 1, 2006 mine smokes sometimes but not constantly, i find its worse if it hasn't run for a few days then you get a thick cloud of white smoke when it fires up. I occasionally get a bit of smoke with a very strong diesel smell whilst the heater is winding down after a short journey Unless it starts billowing smoke constantly i wouldn't worry about it too much, Just be glad its working :) Quote
Galaxy23 Posted February 2, 2006 Author Report Posted February 2, 2006 Thanks Dave,If i remember rightly mine has only smoked when winding down after a short journey. Regards, Paul Quote
Guest blatters Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Paul, That happens to me when it's a very short journey and comes from the booster heater exhaust. Nothing to worry about Blatters Quote
Galaxy23 Posted February 4, 2006 Author Report Posted February 4, 2006 Blatters/Dave m,Just to contradict my last message.Drove the gal approx 15 miles and when i stopped the car and turned the engine off a load of white smoke followed by a strong diesel smell came from the aux heater area.A short time later (half an hour) i was queuing up in the local car wash with the engine running and guess what a load of white smoke coming from under the car again. It then stopped smoking after about a minute. I spoke to a mate of mine who happens to be a Ford mechanic and he told me that it shouldn't smoke at all and that the aux heater is likely to be faulty and are about Quote
dave_m Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 See this post, you can overhaul the heater fairly easily, i wouldn't say you need to replace it Quote
Galaxy23 Posted February 4, 2006 Author Report Posted February 4, 2006 Dave m,Any ideas what the problem could be ? Paul Quote
Guest blatters Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Galaxy23, Sorry to hear about your booster heater problem. I had this as well. Follow this link to find out more - a happy outcome. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...wtopic=3304&hl= My dealer is Harrisons of Peebles. Here is their link and they are the folk who know about the improvement that has been made to the booster heater. I can vouch for the fact that the unit is much improved, reliable and the ticking noise is hardly audible at stationary and not audible at all in motion. http://www.harrisoncars.co.uk/ There is a lot about the booster / aux heater on this site including step-by-step photo's of how you dismantle it, replace the glow plug (your problem with the unburnt diesel) and putting it back together. My Ford manufacturers warranty covered my repairs. Perhaps your one will as well? If not, the help on this site will guide you should you decide to go for it yourself. Quote
Galaxy23 Posted February 4, 2006 Author Report Posted February 4, 2006 Thanks Blatters.I think i'll see if i can get it done under the warranty.I wouldn't be too confident about doing it myself, just in case !!! Regards, Paul Quote
Guest blatters Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I'd tend to agree with you. Filling washer bottles is not far from the edge of my comfort zone. Blatters Quote
