PSBLUE Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 Hi All Thanks for the welcome and advice, vr6galaxyDo you think it would be worthwhile contacting your recommendation and what area is this? Quote
mumof4 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 I see....go for the blokes advice and ignore the females.. :D :D  Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 That ones in Liecester, hit the autotrader web site and find something close to you, go see and test drive a couple before you splash the cash  make sure it's what you want? and you have everything you want? also go for a model with AC as they are a bitch to keep cool in the summer without it! get a decent warrenty and dont buy the first one you see unless it's absolutely perfect in every way :D Quote
PSBLUE Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 i have tried the auto trader for the north west area, as from Manchester, this comes with 3 months warranty and ac, conditionn is good with stone chip marks to the front but generally all seemed fine, just a little urgent due to wifey dropping twins of very soon to add to the two young ones already.. Would travel for the right one just trying to keep within a budget 5k. Thanks .. Quote

El Dingo Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 I found it really hard to find the 'right' Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra. (I wanted a V6 and settled for a 2.3 with toys instead.) There are plenty of 'poverty spec.' Galaxys out there. I'd avoid Zetec and (like VR6 says) go for air-con. 90Hp is a little light for this car, as is the 2.0 petrol. Go for 115 if you can afford it - and by the way, the 2.3 petrol is fine, and not too thirsty, and you'll save on the initial purchase. Try the Great Trade Centre - they generally have a good selection, but maybe too rich (all over 6K)? Autotrader is a good bet. Finally, don't hang around - the good ones go quickly - take Friday off work to be first in the queue. Quote
tim-spam Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 ......I can pick up a W ZETEC 115BHP from a local dealer for 4.5K not that I would I think you'll find the W reg car will be a Mk 1, and will therefore not have the 115 bhp engine - probably has the older 110 bhp engine. Quote

I had an r reg 90ps which seemed fine until I upgraded to my current 02 (2002)115 ghia - the difference was startling - it is now for sale by the way - one owner 38K fully ford seviced and about to be serviced with cambelt change, get in touch if you interested. Don't think twice about getting one though, especially a diesel! Quote
PSBLUE Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 thanks Johncol but think your 02 may be out of price range.. Vr6 galaxy do you know anything about the dealer in Leicester as thinking of driving down on sunday, does the towbar make any difference to the car/ Thanks all .. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 Never had any dealings with them, just the first example I pulled off the autotrader site  if it's a duff one with loads of problem then dont blame me :D otherwise if it's a good one then....... :D Quote
PSBLUE Posted January 27, 2006 Author Report Posted January 27, 2006 vr6 I phoned the guy said they were fleet cars with fsh, but no warranty given have you any tips and will the towbar make any difference to the car. Thanks .. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 tow bar? could mean it's been a shed dragger! so check the clutch is ok! if it has reverseing sensors check they operate ok, check the suspension is ok and doesnt sag! appart from that check all the usual stuff works ok if it's electrically operated test it, test it and test it again <_< Quote
seatkid Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 tow bar? could mean it's been a shed dragger! so check the clutch is ok! if it has reverseing sensors check they operate ok, check the suspension is ok and doesnt sag! Personally I would not buy any car that had been used for towing.....too much scope for abuse... Quote

Mmmm, not sure I agree with you, it sounds to me like some drivers on here drive like the stig all the time anyway, that gives the car way more abuse than me towing my trailer. It's a good anti crumple device for the back end too. Regards - JB Quote
