Hi,

As a total novice when it come to car electronics, I'm hoping one of you 'experts' will give me some advice;

The radio on my Galaxy (not the original) is almost useless on MW. I'm assuming I need to supress something, but I don't know where to start. Is there an obvious check list to follow when trying to find the root cause of my problem? Is there any 80/20 rules I should know?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers

http://www.freedomtrailriders.org/forums/style_emoticons/default/wel_smilie.gif You need one of thesehttp://www.autoleads.co.uk/database/productImages/PC5-91.jpg the OE head unit provides power to the aerial amp, the non OE radio doesn't hence the loss of signal, you can pick the adaptor up from most good ICE shops or motor factors such as Halfords etc

All,

Thanks for making me feel welcome - nice banter (especially after a tough day at the office) - I'll pop down to Halfords this weekend and see if they can help.

You only need to suppress something(s) if you are getting a loud crackling noise on the radio (through the speakers, of course). If this is the case, first step is to see if the noise frequency is related to engine speed. So rev the engine and see if the noise adjusts in "sympathy"

Try here

Clicky here

though i am sure a member of this forum does sells or owns an shop,,,,that sells i.c.e products :P

just a quckie ;)

where does the blue wire go?

To the output from the stereo for an automatic electric car aerial

There is a ford service bulletin TSB 126/1998 about this, You cut the existing earth wire(s) to the radio and connect the radio earth to the vehicle chassis in close vicinity. The routing of the cable also should be "revised".

For Ford type connectors

Pin 2 (BN/YE) and Pin 6 (BN)

For Iso type connectors

Pin 6 (BN)

Crackling is normally plugs/plug leads, whine is normally the alternator.

In my case, CACKLING is the mother in law and WHINING is the wife ...... each to their own lol
